    Moving from a code reader to a diagnostic tool

    Take them off and try to blow through them. If they are stuck open they are no good. Purge valve on the engine end is super easy to get to, and a common failure. Scan tool really isn't going to help you here. Smoke test would be much closer to what you need. Sent from my Pixel 3a using Tapatalk

    I started changing my own oil...

    You will be fine leaving the old filter on til next oil change. If it bothers you change it. No need to drain oil all you will lose is what's in the filter. As perviously stated you may have the right filter, the size are different between manufacturers. Definitely not the end of the world...
