    My Build Thread

Next steps are to rough in plumbing, hvac, and electrical. I'm waiting on the quote and details for the HVAC, I don't know near enough to do that myself. Will likely be a 1.5 ton heat pump. I'll be starting plumbing next weekend. I do have some questions I need help with regarding plumbing...

    My Build Thread

Long delay since last update. I got into the interior build out. The plan is to have a finished room in the first 20' bay and a bath the takes up some space in the 2nd bay. Additionally i'll be left with storage space above. and a fast forward to all floor decking above, kneewall to...

Um? What? There is far more standing timber today that there has ever been. Were talking before Columbus landed on the shores.

Busting out old concrete... why so difficult?

You'll absolutely need a large excavator with thumb to remove that much concrete. Would take weeks to do it with a Bobcat and jack hammer. I'd keep looking for a concrete vendor who will do both.

    Solar power?

Are you looking at cost to do it as a sub panel from existing service or a stand alone service? In my case it was better to pay the power companies "share" to put stand alone on my garage than to try and do a sub panel myself.

    Concrete crack evaluation / questions

Nothing there that would be a big concern to me. Like others have said, all concrete cracks, no way around it. If that crack starts to gap out or heave, then I might be concerned but otherwise I wouldn't put much thought to it. Oh and yes, i'd seal it or go over with whatever flooring you're doing.

questions about purchasing our first home

Yeah VA will definitely not approve that home, if that's the financing route you were going to go. Do you have a definite timeline on how long you'll be at your current duty station? If you are buying fixer upper, make sure you've got enough time to get it fixed up or you may have difficulty...

    My Build Thread

Power company showed up a day early. Had a couple loose connections to track down, but all else was well otherwise. The 6 bulb fixtures are bright as all get out. Just what I was looking for. Should do the trick pretty well. LED exteriors with photo-cells give just enough light output.

    Electrical permit question

Yeah eff that. A paint job would meet their threashold of needing a permit.

Wachu know about outdoor LED yard lights?

LED definitely draws bugs at my house. The Rab stuff looks pretty impressive, but I'm sure its priced impressively as well. I replaced a motion light with an LED fixture by Utilitech from lowes. Aluminum body, and ridiculously bright light. I went ahead and bought a couple of photo...

    My Build Thread

Pics The shop side. Light fixtures are 6 bulb fixtures. Closer view Fans claim 20,000 cfm air movement from each. I'm skeptical of the claim but we'll see. They are all on a reversible speed controller. Should provide enough light... View from the other side of the area that will eventually...

Yard sales - a waste of time?

In a yard sale environment you're still pretty high. Used HF tools at a yard sale would probably bring 30% of the best coupon/sale price if they are perfect.
