    building a mezzanine

There are companies that sell steel mezzanine kits that you can assemble. http://www.sourceequipment.com/mezzanines-and-storage-platforms-pricing.htm They are quick and easy, well engineered but like anything that is convenient, they are a bit pricey....

Question about building metal storage bldg

A slab is a good start. You will have to sawcut sections out of the slab for the building column footings (typically 18" to 24" square and 12 to 18" deep. Is this just a backyard storage shed on the cheap or do you want it to be standing after the next hurricane? Is the concrete slab in...

    Chrome or white reflectors??

Typically, the white reflector is used as a low-bay fixture, (12 - 20 Ft mounting heights) The Chrome reflector is used as a high-bay fixture, (20 -35Ft mounting heights with T5-HO lamps). At low mounting heights, the white reflector also gives a softer light with less glare.

    Floor grinding not going well.

I have tried to hand grind my concrete floor with the same results you have experienced. I used up 6 carbide discs grinding an area about 2 feet by 3 feet. It is not possible to do this task with a hand grinder, period..... To see what equipment is required to grind a floor, take a look at...

    Started the lighting project today.

Charles: Looks good, the conduit runs look real nice...I see a lot of offsets which I am sure were a lot of fun at that height... Are your fixtures cord connected into boxes using a twist-lock type plug? I have some 320W, pulse start, MH, low bay fixtures that I got used off e-bay and they...

Wanting to build 40x60 shop. Estimated total cost building myself? best kit to buy?

I am in the process of building a 40 X 40 X 16 H steel building, also in California. I had the following done by contractors: grading, slab, building erection including full insulation (walls and ceiling) and sheetrock (walls only). I am doing the rest: interior framing, plumbing, electrical...

    Just plywood for loft floor?

I currently have 3/4" tongue and groove plywood for a loft floor, and even during construction it is not holding up well. It gets dirty easy and the edges of the access hole wear down when you step on them. I was thinking of applying a leveling compound for the screw heads and cracks between...

    30x40 Garage/Shop

I did not put in any expansion joints, just saw cuts on 10 ft centers. One less thing to run over with the floor jack... Remember NOT to have your concrete guy use a sealer to retain moisture during curing because you will have to remove it before applying epoxy.. Bill

    30x40 Garage/Shop

Hey P-Dude: That skid steer with a hammer really did a nice job breaking up your old concrete. That was a lot of grunt work to load the chunks into the dump trailer... Are you planning on having some fun running the back hoe or a small excavator for the footings? Bill

New home for some old metal

With the space you have available, bench top tools will probably work the best. To keep nosey neighbors and bad guys from seeing your cool stuff, you may want to consider some "manly" curtains or blinds to secure you many windows. I also ordered a new 68 911L from the factory, same green color...

Sorry I have not done an update in a while, but like everyone else these days, I have been busy. My mother passed away 2 weeks ago and I am also dealing with family issues, not doing construction.... I have finished installing the 2" PVC piping and 6 inlets for the central vacuum system. I am...

Time for another update....I have finished all the interior metal stud framing. I used 16 ft long 20 gage studs and bolted them to the horizontal girts. The copper pipe you see in the walls is for the compressed air system. I framed in the I-beam columns on the two side walls. Taking...
