    Barn Roof Repair Question

It may be 16" centers, I don't recall honestly. Trimming to fit doesn't bother me at all though.

    Barn Roof Repair Question

Ok, so weight is the biggest disadvantage to plywood in place of slats then? I'm ok with that. I'm only needing to replace that roughly 20'x20' section on the main barn structure. The rest I am leaving alone as it does not leak.

    Barn Roof Repair Question

Also, that lower lean-to addition in the picture will be receiving a lot of attention. So just ignore that, I know it's rough.

    Barn Roof Repair Question

Yes, I've had a good look at everything regarding the structure of the barn. It is actually much more sound than I had anticipated. There is a structural post in that area that should be replaced because of a soft area. The remaining loft area was full of rotten straw (I've removed it all) and...

    Barn Roof Repair Question

I'm going to be replacing a large section of tin roof on my barn that has been missing for who knows how long (not my neglect, it was the previous owners) and most of the wood slats have seen enough weather to rot them. Is there a good reason why I shouldn't replace the wood slats with sheets of...

    knob & tube wiring

About a year ago, I bought a house that still has a couple runs of knob and tube in use. I don't believe it to be original? The house was supposedly built in 1900 and from what I've researched, there was not electric service in the area until the late 30's. There used to be a Delco house that...

    New bestest pliers, SO LN47ACF

I bought both sizes today. There were two of each on the truck. Both of the larger ones were comparable in quality, while the two smaller pliers differed a good bit in fit when closed, so I grabbed the nicer pair.

    Floor anchor points!

To each their own, I suppose. Personally, I love chain pots. Day to day and occasional use both.

    Parts washer solvent?

Yeah I couldn't say one way or another. Much of my life has been spent around fumes and chemicals so I have lost a lot of sensitivity. That's probably a bad thing. But ignorance is bliss, right? -Joking of course, lol.

    Parts washer solvent?

I use a parts cleaner solvent from NAPA. It says it's not recommended for parts washer pumps, but it hasn't killed my Harbor Freight pump yet (been a few years now). It is very very spendy... around $200 for 5 gallons. But holy **** does it work well. Other than the cost, it's amazing stuff...

What's Your Shop Air Compressor & Why

I bought a new Quincy 60gal several years ago. It's American made, it's quiet and I have yet to over tax it, even with bodywork. I now have two different garages and I'd like to buy a second unit.

Overpay for a house when it has extra garage and out building?

I was in the market to buy a house very early this last year. The goal was 2000+ square foot house, on 3+ acres and at least one large garage/barn. I quickly found out that the current housing market is stupid. There wasn't a whole lot available that fit my needs and what was available, cost...

Vintage vice jaw replacement Craftsman 506-51830

Anyone else have one of these 506-51830's? I acquired one and I'm curious what years they were made. This one is a bit ugly, but it still functions well. I'd like to say that I'll give it a full resto... but most likely I'll just keep using it as it is.

    Mystery Brackets

That's gotta be it! Makes sense too, since it's an old farm. At one time, there was a total of 4 grain bins but now there is only one. I've found other new and used grain bin parts laying around too.
