Ever do something so stupid you wonder if you should be left unsupervised?

I had a very heavy tilt up wooden garage door that had huge springs on each side. One spring had broken with the door fully raised up. I was facing outside pounding on the top edge of the door trying to get it down when it let loose and came down with a bang and almost took my legs off. I now...

Ever do something so stupid you wonder if you should be left unsupervised?

I was rubbing some linseed oil into a wood table. Like my dad I like to get every bit out of a rag so I kept it around for the next time. The next day I smell something burning in my shop and see the oily rag smoldering on my work bench. I threw it outside on the lawn and it burst into flames. I...

    Genie Worm drive suddenly stopping

My 6 year old Genie only moves about 1" at a time. I called their help line and they stepped me through some tests and determined I probably need a new load sensor for about $30. I haven't installed it yet but am very satisfied with their customer service. I almost never get to speak with a...

Who ate my freakin' measuring tape now???

I always forget my tape measures at Home Depot. I look for the Harbor Freight FREE coupons for tape measures and hoard them.

    small backyard tool sheds

I saw an old outhouse that the owner installed a lifesized dummy of an old prospector seated on the can with an old hat and beard etc. When the nosy visitor open the door he had tied the hand of the prospector to the door so the movement scared the heck out of the visitor.

    Above 1200 Sq/FT Restored 1930's Auto Shop

I live in a 1923 craftsman bungalow that my great uncle built. I added a second story and doubled the size of his workshop and use many of his old tools. I wish he could see it now.

I really admire your design and quality of workmanship. How often do you wonder what the prior owner would say if he could see it now?

    Surviving My Own Stupidity...

I wiped down some furniture with linseed oil and saved the used rags for the next day. I was lucky enough to be in the shop the next day when I smelled something burning and noticed the rags were smoldering and threw them out on the lawn. They burst into flames which could have been in my shop...

    Above 1200 Sq/FT Restored 1930's Auto Shop

My rust "brew" is 1 part molasses to about 8 parts water. My wife bought 5 gallons of molasses at a feed store. I put the mixture in a 5 gallon bucket with a lid and toss the parts in and forget about them for a few weeks. I rinse them off and scrub a little with a wire brush and they are shiny...
