    Quote/Mention feature

Yeah, I auto-subcribe to threads, but unsubscribe email alerts from very popular threads because I don't plan on reading them everyday anyway, or even every time I log on, but I WOULD if I knew someone responded to something I said or asked me a question. That would make sense. Well I...

    Quote/Mention feature

Oh, I do subscribe, but that's only so useful. In a thread like "Vises of..." for instance, sure, people will keep posting there. And the whole thread will pop up in my subscribed thread that someone posted. And I may or may not check. But with the quote/mention feature, someone a week later...

    Quote/Mention feature

Other v-bulletin boards have a great feature that gives you a notification if someone quotes your post or if someone mentions you by typing your name with @ ahead of it. @Poster. The mention/quote shows up on the user's User CP, sort of like an inbox notification. This would be useful for a...

    The VISES of Garage Journal

It is marked 8135 in small print near the jaw on the static side. I'd assume the "35" refers to the 3.5" jaws, but I'm no expert. They are original jaws! Just needed some wire wheeling and polishing. Apparently layered duck tape and spilled varnish is effective jaw protection.

Latest project. Wire wheel will take you far!

    The VISES of Garage Journal

Cool, I like the stand, never seen one like that. The acorn nuts are a nice touch. Amazing what's hiding under old paint and grime.

    The VISES of Garage Journal

I was thinking more of aubergine than pink would coordinate well with my decor. :lol_hitti Yeah yeah I know it's not macho to care what color your tools are, but aside from that, everybody with working eyes notices anyway. Well I'm probably gonna go with something weird just for the heck of...

    Tripod work light from trash

nice, i hope mine lasts that long. assuming I don't smash in the glass... I don't know if it's so much brighter than the other lamps, I'd imagine 500 watts is 500 watts. But somehow I'm imagining some guy from candlepower forums is yelling at the computer screen about how wrong I am. :) But...

    Flexheads...floppy, locking, or indents?

I haven't had a problem with force on my floppy long handles that I can recall, I tend to imagine my predicted arc and where the force will go so when the bolt breaks I'm not going to fly off into something hard. That said, not having to think about that might be nice. I can't say I've...

Project "BOX"....I need a purpose for this cool metal box.

I'm watching this thread with interest. I've collected a few older electrical boxes. They are sturdy things with good hinges, but I'm not sure how to utilize them. I like the medical kit idea. I was going to bring one inside and make it into a liquor cabinet...

    The VISES of Garage Journal

I picked up a Wilton Cadet. Normally I just clean my vises up but I think I'm going to restore this one cause somehow the orange isn't doing it for me. Hunter Green sounds right, though maybe I'll do something else. Black? I'm not at all a purist. Seafoam green? haha that could be weird but...

    Tripod work light from trash

Mine was made by Vivitar in Japan. You could do it without modifying the tripod, but I opted to drill holes in the top plate. It's fairly heavy, so I don't think it's tilting anywhere. I like that the leg clips are metal. I'm going to give it a touch of graphite lube or something like it on the...

    Estate Sale Haul

Yeah, pricing is a funny thing. I priced two sets of Xcelite nutdrivers this weekend based on 'ebay pricing' but nobody touched em. My boss let me bring a little vise of mine, 3 inch Rock Island, nice but nothing special, with pipe jaws and swivel base for 15 which I think is a fair deal, but...
