That seems like a complicated fix for a problem I've never had. What do you tow and what are you towing with that's improved by using that?

I've got a B&W Tow and Stow on my truck and I've been very happy with it.

Can you do the addition in such a way that you can convert it to a bedroom or other interior space when it's time to sell? That could make the long term financial aspect more reasonable.

The smallest screw has a major diameter of about 0.020" which means it's likely a 0000-160 thread. Based on the age I'm thinking watches.

McMaster-Carr has some aluminum elbows but they're pipe size not tubing size so you'll have to look at the dimensioned drawings to see if anything will work. I've made my own elbows by just drilling intersecting holes in aluminum block. You can even add mounting holes to secure it somewhere.
