Thanks HPW. It's all finished. I bolted the side posts with 5 3/8" each into the structure, and then put in 2 metal braces connecting them further to the structure. In retrospect I should've used hex bolts w/ washers instead of carriage. But it seems to be holding so far.

Thanks guys. I will certainly keep you updated and post the steps of building this when finished. But if anyone knows where I can turn to find out about how much door weight I can hang off a 4x4 redwood post please help.
