TheShrine, Nice Build! I used 4x8 Hardipanel, 8" cedar grain. Used 1 3/4" battens ripped from 1x4" miratec. I'm really happy with the way it turned out but it was way too much work. I'd probably go with horizontal hardiplank if I had it to do over. Pictures in link below.

I used attic trusses for my 10/12 pitch. Pictures in the link below. I'm really happy with the room upstairs.

SHMO, Love the house and the garage. Well played sir. Your attention to detail and design are impressive. I did board and batten style on my lower walls as well but faked it with Hardipanel + miratec battens. My house (30 yrs old) is actually vertical channel cedar but it was crazy expensive...

I considered T-111 but saw too many examples of it rotting out around the bottom. Check out my project which uses hardi plank on the gables and hardi-panel + miratec battens everywhere else:
