Thank you but that didn’t help me.

    Ceiling fan CFM

My barn is approx 37,000 cubic feet. What CFM rating should I look for on a ceiling fan. I will have two installed.

    Framing - sill plate

Once I’m ready to put the wall covering on, I’ll put a thick bead of caulk at the sill concrete seam. That should do it.

    Framing - sill plate

Ah, didn’t consider air seal. Thank you. I’ll be liquid nailing the sills down cause I can’t shoot into the floor with my radiant in there. Not until I can turn it on and see the tubes anyway.

    Framing - sill plate

Just poured my floor. 4” 3500 psi over 4” gravel and 6mil poly. I need to start framing for my barndo, question…. For my sill plates, I’m assuming pressure treated but do I need to put a moisture barrier under it like that thin pink styrofoam stuff?

    Geothermal heat pump

The perimeter is 2” then a row of 1” inside that, the 6” gravel in the center. The apartment area has all 2”. I will have 1” board and batten over tyvek on the exterior. 6” of batt insulation, vapor barrier and 3/4” plywood up 8’ then metal the rest of the way up on the inside. Ceiling will be...

Radiant slab heat pump and manifold sizing

Thanks. I did design the stairwell to be open to help the heat get upstairs. I could totally put a unit right against the ceiling in the stairwell. Plenty of room there. You think a single ductless unit will work for AC and backup heat for the whole apartment? It’s 400 SF downstairs (kitchen...

    Geothermal heat pump

Thanks everyone for your time and expertise. I have officially been talked out of geo. I’m going to stick with propane for the floor heat. For the apartment side, I’ll need some AC. Since I only have a 7’-2” ceiling in the first floor and 7’ on the second, a ductless isn’t going to work...

Radiant slab heat pump and manifold sizing

I’ll be doing a mini split ducted ac system zoned. I am thinking to zone it for upstairs and down, because I may need a little extra heat upstairs as I’ve only got radiant in the slab. I assume I can get heat out of those mini split heat pumps? Do they have gas backup like the regular units?

    Geothermal heat pump

Dumb question but do the mini split systems offer heat in the winter? I’ll only have the heated floor on the first floor. I was think of doing a ducted system and make the first and second floors different zones. That was I could use the heat pumps upstairs in the winter.

    Geothermal heat pump

Thanks for the responses. Yeah I’ve been reading about the reliability issues, especially on well water. Thanks kj, I was hoping someone would tell me to stick with propane. So much easier. Thanks jack, while I have no interest in burning wood - I sure do have enough of it. The solid water...

    Geothermal heat pump

I’m doing all the installation myself and have an excavator and 15 acres of woods to use. I’m not sold on the In ground loops, but If I do they definitely be the horizontal style.
