    Steel Building construction

I used Mueller and am very happy. I hired a professional erector firm and they did a great job. This is a Texas company. Sent from my SCH-I545 using Tapatalk

Can I run AL thru wall/slab to panel inside?

Getting ready to wire up the service from pole mounted meter/breaker that is at the street (this is on my own pole/riser fed from the transformer across the street to the top of my riser by the POCO) underground in PVC conduit to a main breaker panel INSIDE the wall in my new shop (steel bldg if...

    Is 4/0 4/0 2/0 4 URD a good choice for me?

:lol: Well I'm suckin' hind *** on the grid I suspect ... I am the very last pole in my neighborhood from this POCO ... can't speak to how connected to the transformer but it would be pretty hard to get further from "the source" than I am. I had to get on my knees with the POCO to get them...

    Is 4/0 4/0 2/0 4 URD a good choice for me?

Yes sir I did use 220 ... mea culpa! I am NOT an electrician nor do I play one on TV! Should I assume 240V is what is delivered by the POCO?

@04Cummins ... thank you for the replies ... I can't get your result unless I use copper ... with Aluminum I still get 3/0.

    Is 4/0 4/0 2/0 4 URD a good choice for me?

@04Cummins ... 2/0? I ran what I thought was a voltage drop calculator and got 3/0 as minimum AL in conduit with a 3% voltage drop ... are you thinking a greater drop or did I screw up the voltage drop calculation? I used this calculator => Voltage Drop Calculator Thanks ...

    Is 4/0 4/0 2/0 4 URD a good choice for me?

OK .. I came here asking for advice and am glad to have received it ... thank you. This all changes things a bit for me ... I'm on board with the PVC conduit ... that means I have to suffer the cost of the 24" trench to get 18" minimum cover ... the PVC is only another $120 or so for 200' so I...

    Is 4/0 4/0 2/0 4 URD a good choice for me?

The local power company is running the wire across the street to my new pole. I don't know what wire that 100' run will be. On the pole I must provide a 200amp meter loop... The run to my bldg is then 180'. You don't think 4/0 will suffice?

    Is 4/0 4/0 2/0 4 URD a good choice for me?

To answer RCman's questions ... Voltage? .. it's a woodworking shop ... most are 220V 20Amp machines, 1 rarely used 22V stick welder(50Amp) and the the rest are all 120V 15amp (all single phase) The transformer is across the street ... 100' to my "new pole" Pole to panel is 180' Bade

    Is 4/0 4/0 2/0 4 URD a good choice for me?

OK I hear the comments about "use conduit" and I can appreciate the notion ... COST ... is the huge factor hear ... that being said I can go the 18" depth and use metal conduit (I gather from what I have read EMT isn't allowed for burial so I am stuck with the significantly more expensive IMC...

    Is 4/0 4/0 2/0 4 URD a good choice for me?

I just found this forum and am very glad I did ... I am in the middle of having a steel 30x40 workshop (Mueller) constructed on my property. I live North of San Antonio and the soil is ... "rocky would be a severe understatement". For various reasons I have to have a 2nd meter pole installed...
