How old were you when you built your (dream?) garage?

For many years I strove to get the garage I dreamt of. Nearly did get there in my early 30s but business and family neccesitated moving, and I had to settle for something a little more modest. The funny thing is I started phased retirement this September (I'm 57) and now only work 4 days a week...

How would you raise and lower a workbench top?

We have commercial kitchen, variable height workbenches at the college I work in, so that learners in wheelchairs can use them. I have seen them in suppliers warehouses secondhand. How about an adapted motorcycle/Quadbike or engine jack? Really cheap on ebay, about 40 quid here in the UK.

    DIY Sandblast Cabinets

My son and have been planning on building one for a while but after testing quickly in a box in the garden and losing ourselves in a cloud of dust we wondered what extraction process you guys might be using? We didn't attach the workshop vac but I don't think it would make a lot of difference...

    My new little weld bench

Very nice work area. Just goes to show that a bit of creative thinking and some obvious skills beat expensive off-the-shelf every time! Nice job fella.

Small UK workshop in Surrey BIG PLANS!!

Now that is a proper garage! The before photo could have been mine! Never mind these 60' x 40' garages, we have the same kit in a 20' x 10'. Your's is looking good now. I just find moving all the family junk takes hours, and then you look at the pile annd wonder how the hell it all...

    scottish garage

I told my missus that I'll only need to buy the Snap on socket set once and it will last a lifetime. She said 'When you've broken the other 4 sets of sockets I'll know what to get you for Christmas then!' Some people just don't understand! I bought it anyway and lived through the week of silent...

    the one hole wonder

A great garage compared to any size one on here. Just goes to show that a bit of careful thought and creativity is the key. Love the plier rack. I'm pulling out an old wire dog crate that I had put out for recycling first thing in the morning, to try something similar! Sincerest form of...

Price for UK block built garage?

I currently have a 2 storey single garage on the side of my house and I am thinking about effectively having another single (10 foot x 19 foot) built onto this one and simply knocking through the 6 foot side window to link the 2. It will need to be block construction with tiled roof. Anyone got...

    Electric tool storage

Shorten the cords on each tool to create a tail of about a foot and use lock-in plugs with a single extension lead (retractable to make it even neater)?

    scottish garage

The guys in The States don't realise how much we have to pay for Snap On stuff here in the UK. Go on, make their eyes water and tell how much you had to pay for those… and not the price you tell the missus! Garage is looking a treat. How's the motor coming on?

    Between 485 & 705 SQ/FT British Garage planned

It's looking amazing. Nice to see a build in the UK with the constraints most of us have with planning and limited funds. I was looking at a very similar construction for a house we wanted to buy. Unfortunately the house fell through and we decided to stay put but it's great to see that a...

Below 265 SQ/FT Very small garage in Russia

Wouldn't it be great if the world was run by guys with garages instead of Politicians and biased media?! Any man who can pull apart a wreck and rebuild it with modest tools, happily goes out of his way to drive hundreds of miles to help a friend pick up a car, works in freezing temperatures...
