Just finished up restoring a Craftsman 5162 (Rock Island) that was pretty dang rough... even had some flaws in the casting. But it turned out pretty clean I must say.

I took a stab with the grinder and some time... Turned out functional at least! Thank you very much for the offer too, maybe if this doesn't last :)

HELP! :) I was trying to use the bolt to replace the handle for the pivot lock and noticed this wasn't going to work... There's no clearance for even a bolt head to pass by while tightening without hitting the vise body. Thoughts? I hope this wasn't one of those wonky tapered end ones...

Yost 203 - Mostly done It's been a while... and I finally got around to this one... Still needs the swivel lock handle. Anyone have any idea how old this thing is? Hard for me to find details. Yost has obviously been around since like 1908.

Hadn't thought of that... I did try flipping the nut around once to see if it was better one way vs the other and it wasn't really any different. There is some play in there so that's not a bad idea... And if I can make that work, a lot more discreet looking. Thanks!

It's going to need some kind of shim though. If I wedge the end of a zip-tie on the low side everything lines up nice. Below are...

Craftsman 506 51801 restore (My first vise restoration) Progress pictures: Craigslist find for $20 But the jaws don't line up great... still trying to figure that out. Do I need wedges? What, if anything can I do? Or did I do something wrong?

Awesome! Thanks! I'm glad it's no big deal. I tried briefly to get the single large nut/bolt off to take the pivot base off but it's huge and I need to buy a special socket. Also not sure if it's reverse thread or something wonky.

Newbie posting here... Inherited a Yost 203 from my father in law. Seems like it's a good candidate for a restore. I know I'll have to fix the swivel handle. I'll probably go the "bolt/grind/peen" method there... Anyone know what's with this bent thing here? Hopefully it's not a big issue...
