Beeswax Finish on Steel - anyone with experience?

In the past I have done picture frames and shaving brush stands like this: 1: Wipe down with acetone 2: If any forced patina is desired do it now 3: Heat up with heat gun or OA torch just warm enough for wax to melt 4: Rub block of wax on part. If the heat is modulated well you can easily...

How do I make a cone out of sheet metal?

I just made one from 18ga 304 sheet using a brake. Take the template (bad idea posted a great picture) and divide it into twenty equal segments...so that's 18 lines radiating from the center. Brake each line 20 degrees and you're pretty much there. The last bend for me was tough since I was...

    More weathered sign stuff....

Nice work! It definitely has the weathered and worn look to it. I like the worn edges around the black portion. And the water staining is spot on. A suggestion if I may, white tends to yellow out with atmospheric conditions and just dirt accumulation over the years. To replicate maybe tint to...

Header/exhaust pipe - tack welding stainless to mild

Do you have the 409 or 304 version HP2? 409 stainless can be welded with plane jane steel mig wire with no backpurging or solar flux required. If it's 304 you will need to weld with a 309L filler and back purge/solar flux. Now, for just tacking together I wouldn't have an issue with using...

Mud truck axle project, meritor 5 ton planteries & ford 9"

There looks to be a few tricky ones in the lower truss area. The gaps seem to be nice and tight though so i'd say you're doing good. Are you using a notcher or the chop saw method?

    The Machine Work Thread

Needed an adapter to put -4 braided line to an LS oil pressure port....on a sunday.....at 19:00. What is a $20 fitting from the store I cranked out in an hour. Good thing this is a hobby

    -an fitting question

In that case I'd do a -8 and drill it to 15/32

    -an fitting question

Totally depends on brand. I have seen as large as 1/16" under nominal on bulkhead type fittings. Usually you're 2/16's (aka 1/8") under nominal size - ex. -6AN will have a .25" bore. In certain applications that are low psig but high flow I will ream an undersized fitting to be 1/16" under...

    The thread of Dimple!! Finally.

Test the surface hardness. TMR heat treats and QPQ (liquid nitride) their dies so they are pretty damn hard. Just by looks I'd say it's not theirs and what you have is a cast die judging by the insignia.
