We install them every day above fireplaces, both new construction and existing. Never once had an issue that could be contributed directly to heat. Is it optimal? no. But as stated earlier, it's what the customer wants. And 90% of the time the room and furniture is already laid out based on the...
I may have missed it with the replies, but why not span the gap with a sort of mesh, not unlike a bridge grid/expanded steel? Water and such will follow the normal lay of the land, the car has a nice gentle slope to follow, color as needed.
position lift IN the back half parallel to the rear wall, spin car sideways on dollies to position for the lift. You still have one bay for parking, and the front half of the other 2 for extra work/storage.
I'm actually only halfway joking, as I have seen something very similar done.:D
I use one...4x8 as said earlier for simplicity sake. It works. I have an insulated 2 car garage on a fairly thick slab. Too many variables to say"it'll keep it at 65*" but yes it works. I need exit temps from the thing in the 120* range on average.

Bill-I contemplated not posting in this thread several times. I spent a pretty good chunk of time reading this whole thread, as well as the first and last 10 pages of the other thread(no point in reading the middle, it was just the same thing over and over).
All of us here are hoarders to a...
I use one in a very similar garage, it takes a while if the temp is down too low(outside below 40/inside, low mid/50's).
I also have a 80K propane heater
that I use to get the temps up(low 60's) and to get the slab heated a bit faster.
The big one running for under 5 min will usually increase...
what happens when your firehouse is renovating and the kitchen cabinets have got to go?
2 loads with the truck and trailer is what!
Phase one complete for now, the uppers will get mounted over the weekend, then the rest of the fun begins. This is the electrical repair/test/ham radio bench, the...
After closer look, that is the one I saw. It was sunday, and pouring down rain, so it was closed and I couldn't get a very good look. I do remember the surroundings now after seeing it on google street view. Thanks for bringing this up, another place to take my 4yr old gearhead!
Is Bruce Elders the one up on the hill half hidden by the parking garageish area? I ran across a hole in the wall shop there last yr while visiting the in laws(I'm in Charlottesville)
BINGO
especially as sue happy as people are now, if it was an issue, everyone would have "constant headaches" or "dizzy spells as a result"
That being said, I use a 18K BTU ventless in my uninsulated mutipurpose shack. The metal and glass surfaces are constantly covered in moisture when running...
30K unit in my basement is running off a computer power supply and has been for about 3 yrs. Check Craigslist and Freecycle, people are always tossing their old desktops and the fans and power supplies are always useful.
I prob have 30 of the things sitting here in a box and another 5 in use for...
