Found hell of a bargain ( Dewalt 740, 10" Piwershop

Start with getting a decent manual for the tool: http://vintagemachinery.org/pubs/detail.aspx?id=2865 Study it, then use the descriptions they used so we can talk the same language. I've restored many DeWalts over the years and you'd be surprised at just how badly treated, they can still be...

    Spotlighting Work

A much needed use for the many Harbor Freight LED flashlights that are given away free is a simple portable spotlight, useful for many shop tasks. Primary benefits are bright light, self contained power, and no heat. I put mine together with a 1” tube cutoff, a weight bar clamp ring, and a $1.57...

Quick lighting question and opinion for woodworking

My 2+ car attached garage is my wood/ work shop. I chose to install basic screw- in bulb fixtures because 1. They are easy to do and cheap. 2. In a “Y” tree, CFL’s illuminate just fine for me, a member of the over 60’s club. 3) bulb maintenance is as simple as reaching up , unscrewing and...

    Commander Grinder

It has a two wire line cord; if it is the original then that definitely puts it in the 1940- 1950 range, but since the exposed inner insulation type is what used to be called double cotton covered, I'm leaning towards mid to late 1940's.

Help me choose Splices & Terminals

Those you cite are machine- applied, not the simple hand crimper, have you priced out the tooling- usually in the thousands; for a project vehicle it isn't fiscally sound.

    I love Butcher Block, but...

Don't beat yourself up too badly over this, it's the wood's fault, not yours. The species is called Ramin (nothing to do with noodles), grown in the Pacific rim countries and used extensively in furniture made for export. It has been over- exploited and is now very much limited in commerce...

Tools for sale, not selling? WTF. ?????

Re: Tools for salel, not selling? WTF. ????? That is a fitting assessment spoken in a sentence of just 13 words. I think I may use that when I see overpriced junk- assed tools on future Craigslist ads, thanks.

Restoration of a Craftsman Model 100 drill press

You are one lucky S.O.B., and welcome to the forum. Were it me, I'd simply clean it, polish the knobs and shiny bits, sand and seal the table surfaces and column and call it a job, the thing is near- pristine for an early '50's Craftsman- that's when the engine jeweling trim was in vogue. My...

What kind of tools have you found in the road??

I walk my dog every day, I scored these roadside goodies during those times. A 2 ton Compact Trolley Jack and a 1-1/2 Ton Scissor Jack and finally two 6- foot folding step ladders, all this in my neighborhood on foot, but roadway finds none the less.
