In 2020 I did pretty much the same thing.
42x64 - 5” slab with pex stapled to Type 2 EPS foam. I spent days leveling/raking/compacting Recycled concrete. Then using sand to fill in low spots. By the time I was done with it you could walk on the foam and it would not even deflect at all...
My opinion:
Put a 440lb load in the center of a 60", 12 gauge/1 -5/8" tall? unistrut span. The unitrut could buckle/spread open allowing the trolley/load to plummet to the ground. This is what will fail first.
I built up my pole barn pad with clay fill harvested from a borrow pit on my property. The site was fairly level (within 18 inches). Although there was about 48" of topsoil that had to be removed and replaced. I figure it took about 120-140 tandem dump truck loads to fill back up the pad.
My...
I used 1 J-Trim. terminate the first piece of siding going into the corner with no trim, install J-Trim ontop and continue out of the corner with the 1 J-trim.
Just thought I would mention that it is possible that a layer of OSB exists between your drywall and the studs. This was the case with my attached garage. Assuming there is living space on the other side of that wall.
The wall that connects a Garage to a living space is built like an exterior...
I recently poured a slab on grade. I used 2" thick Type 2 EPS (16psi). Concrete is 5" thick. EPS seems more common around here in residential use (Alberta Canada). Although I see a lot of XPS at comercial construction sites.
I saved about 1500$ rather than buying XPS.
I plan on driving my...
If you end up buying/picking the lumber from HD or Lowes you'll have to pick through it otherwise you'll end up with all the **** lumber at the front of the pile that previous customers left behind.
I'm getting ready to pour a 5" slab. My plan is the same as yours, staple the pex directly to 2" foam. My research sugested that having the pex at the bottom of the concrete may make the hydronic heat slower to react to adjustments in temperature. I'm doing rebar on chairs ontop of the pex...
I have 10 foot ceilings in my attached garage and have a 10' 40000BTU Calcana tube heater mounting in the top corner of the garage oposite the doors. The back of my truck w/service body is within 4' of the heater. The Aluminum Tool boxes on the truck get warm but not hot.
My last garage had...
I'd also suggest replacing the panel with a Konnected system. It uses your existing alarm sensors and integrates with smartthings home automation. Turns your system into a self monitored smart home.
Best part is there are zero montly fees.
Have you considered insulating as a Frost protected shallow foundation instead?
In my Pole building project I used sheets of 2" thick Type 1 EPS foam insulation 40" wide around the entire perimeter of the building. They are burried 12" deep and slope away from the building. This was done...
