    LM8500 Wall Controller Failure.

unfortunately no dice on the separate power supply idea. I've found a few things: #1 - The 8500 ignores remotes unless the 888 is connected. This is even true for a homelink car that was programmed using the yellow button on the 8500. #2 - If two 888's are switched, the learned remotes follow...

    LM8500 Wall Controller Failure.

The problem with the 888LM's as several have mentioned seems to be that for compatibly with the standard 2-conductor connection between opener/control they've chosen to re-purpose the connection as power rather than signal. They draw power off the line slowly to avoid the other side thinking a...

    Wtf ?

It's sort-of close to making sense as a oar lock because the pointy bit seems to go though the bracket which could then mount to a boat (and then perhaps the handle part is to cinch the oar down to the bracket with some missing part). It wouldn't ever make sense to bolt the bracket to the pointy...

    Wtf ?

This seems less likely because it's a cast part - then again if I ever get around to getting into molding/casting I'd probably putting my initials in the mold too... Another possibility is it being light-fixture related (https://www.elkgroupinternational.com/). Anymore it seems everything like...

    Wtf ?

Seems horse/harness related, but not sure which part.. Or maybe fire-fighting, Elkhart brass goes way back and makes brass firefighting stuff, possibly ELK is shorthand for this since it's a small part

    Cut Diagonal Brace for Window?

Load-bearing, it's the back exterior wall with a really odd truss roof (think pizza hut) above it. Inside sheathing might be where this goes, but I'm an amateur with the whole inspection process and I'm trying to keep things simple - adding inside sheathing raises more questions. (i.e. can in...

    Cut Diagonal Brace for Window?

I finally started building on my workshop in the back of an existing garage and plan to add a window to the back wall to let in some light. There's a diagonal 'let-in' brace in the way though and I haven't been able to find info on how to properly reinforce the area after the brace is cut. If...

    The Workshop-in-a-Garage

When it comes to versatility & future use, agreed 100% - this makes the partition wall a tough choice. I think overall it's good for the benefits, but far from perfect and a lot of other things are going to have to compensate for this compromise. The leveling casters tip led me down an internet...

    The Workshop-in-a-Garage

Update below with a few changes: - I received actual measurements of the new garage that revealed it's really more like 27'x36'. This is wider than I originally guessed, but also not as deep. The workshop area will now be 11'x30'; and max vehicle depth is 17'. - Compressor/dust collection/vac...

    The Workshop-in-a-Garage

Great idea on the bump-out. Funny too since I have one currently, not sure why it didn't occur to me to repeat this. I'm tearing this down at the old place anyways so I can probably re-use it even. The man-door on the back is existing; but I'm thinking of a window in the back corner now that...

    The Workshop-in-a-Garage

Long time reader, first post in years. I'm moving soon and am in the process of planning out the new shop; looking forward to posting as this progresses and to getting everyone's ideas. For background, I currently have a finished 22'x22' 2-car detached and a 12'x20' shed that are each very...

    Garage door insulation cover

After a little more digging I may have found the answer... "backer laminate" It's the hardboard-like laminate that's used on the underside of particle board surfaces (think school desk). Rigid, thin, tough. Not sure of a source for this but I may settle for the cheapest 'normal' laminate sheet...

    Garage door insulation cover

I'm in the process of insulating an un-insulated wood door. The door panels are recessed 1/2" on the inside and it's a perfect fit for 1/2" polyisocyanurate foam. So I'm left with an overall smooth surface, but the insulation panels are exposed and I'd like a more uniform surface for aesthetics...

    MDF Drawer Organizers

Slow, dusty work but 3 are done. I wouldn't have thought of moisture but I'll probably varnish these to prevent any problems, as an added benefit that'll keep the MDF from soaking up grease from tools.

    MDF Drawer Organizers

I'm looking into finally organizing the drawers in my rolling tool chest. I like the idea of tool foam but most all of it seems overpriced for what it is. As an alternative I'm considering doing the same thing using MDF and a router; cheaper, sturdier, and the MDF won't hold onto the tool like...
