You should not, the nose cone is if you were converting a DCF902 like OP was. For the 850 you will need some sort of sleeve bearing for the anvil, but unfortunately the sleeve bearing that comes with MCF901 nose cone does not fit in the 850 (OD is too big, so you could machine it down I suppose).

I believe if you order the nose cone assembly from the MCF901, p/n N802057, it comes with a spacer. And that should be all you need. FYI, the parts diagram is on SBD's ServiceNet website - https://www.toolservicenet.com/dewalt/en//POWER-TOOLS//p/MCF901
