    Dewalt Radial Arm Saw

I think doing well since it's probably closer to 60 years old. Lovely saw I hope you enjoy it. I've just finished rebuilding an Italian DW 110.

    Recycling CFLs?

The light from CFLs is **** and they are so dim even when you have waited 2 days for them to worm up. Good led lights are instant on, brighter as they are directional and a much better representation if the full colour spectrum. I hope I never see a CFL again!

Any tricks on keeping screwdrivers from stinking?

The ones with soft rubbery bits will also end up smelling. It just takes a while. The balistol sounds like it may work.

Drilling into cement. What did I do wrong?

You can't drill concrete without hammer! The impact breaks up a bit of concrete and the rotation just helps remove the waste. Hammer is OK for soft materials but for hard concrete SDS is night and day. If all you have is a non hammer drill go buy a half decent SDS and never look back for...

    torx versus phillips

The only thing worse than Philips is a slotted. Both are obsolete and I see no excuse for people still using them. In the UK all electrical items use slotted screws. Nothing could be more stupid in an application where you can't see the screws!

    Battery maintenance/storage?

Li-ion batteries are great because they have such high capacities, are light weight, have less memory effects and self discharge more slowly. The last one is critical along with another one that the cells can completely collapse if over discharged. Therefore they still self discharge over months...

    The Prefabricated Concrete Wonderland

So I managed to get most of the day to try to sort out out the garage. I need a good bench to work on and I have been planning this for a while. But I also want to insulate the whole place, and I expect the bench to be so heavy I never want to move it. This led to the dual challenge of bench...

    The Prefabricated Concrete Wonderland

I have had a good look and the roofing doesn't rest on that panel. My main worry is how heavy the sections will be when I try the get them out. I will take a picture of the pit next time I have it uncovered. Its quite deep and reasonably dry but very dirty down there at the moment. Thanks for...

    The Prefabricated Concrete Wonderland

The garage has got a bit full of stuff which is making it hard to sort things out! I did treat my self to a new toy though, the lidl 3.2 hp 50 L compressor and some air tools. My dealt radial arm saw that needs some work and a table. And a wood band saw that just needs a little work...

    The Prefabricated Concrete Wonderland

Yeh, I am lucky to have this much space by UK standards. My plans are to board all the inside with rigid foam insulation to make it better in the winter. I also need to sort out power, at the moment I have power running off a socket ring from the house, not bad but I want more power and a...

    The Prefabricated Concrete Wonderland

Thanks guys, it may look like a brick veneer but its actually just a pattern applied to the concrete panels. Mainly I like to do a bit of everything, some woodwork, metal work and car repairs. I will be doing loads to try to improve the garage and the house so I will post up here. Its got a bit...

    The Prefabricated Concrete Wonderland

Hello everybody, I'm afraid I have never posted much on Garage Journals, mainly because I have never had a garage! Being a long term student, and living in a country where just being able to own a home these days is far outside the reach of many people I am kind of lucky to even have a garage...
