    I dont think you need to remove the spring but I would definitely want to release all of the tension on it. If you dont feel comfortable doing that then call a local garage door company and have them unwind the spring. Then replace the block and have them come back and wind the tension back...

    This would be the way I would do it too. Heavy wood cribbing with 4 short bottle jacks. Get it up high enough to fix it and it should be good to go for another 20 years :)

    They make repair pieces so you can just patch in the bottom sections without replacing the entire frame. If you search on "commercial metal door frame replacement" you will find more than what you want to know.

    I dont understand how it could be better than gas as far as regulating the heat ? With gas you can actually see the flame and know what you are getting. And it doesnt require special cookware.

    I dont know the exact formula but I just stuck my thermometer in the vent in my upstairs bedroom and the air coming out is about 60 degrees. The air at the return is 75 and it is 93 outside right now. My house was built in 1978 so it is probably not as well sealed up as yours. My HVAC system...

    Still would be nice to know what the temperature of the air coming out of the vents is. A $10 digital thermometer would tell a lot :)
