What Tool Is The Bane of your existence? I'll go 1st

SAE Allen keys! I work in an industrial factory and hex head SHCS, BHCS are everywhere, if it's 100% metric I know the sizes well, but for SAE it's always the 3rd or 4th one I try. And we have a mix of equipment so sometimes it trying both type. The sets of L shaped keys that are pain to get...

    What is the correct fastener?

I'd use some galvanized wedge anchors and consider mounting some unistrut to the building first and then mount the brackets on that. When it needs replacement in the future and the brackets are different unistrut allows easy adaptation.

Best and Worst US-Made "Vintage" Craftsman Tools

I'll second the black handle professional pliers, I've got two needle nose from that era and use all the time (homeowner/DIY use). Also have late 80's combination wrenches (both SAE and Metric sets) made in Japan, they'll last my lifetime and have never had any issues with them. A few stinky...

What did you do "IN" your garage today?

(yesterday) Changed the power steering pump and spark plugs on my son's (formerly father's) 07 Lacrosse. Both were PITA! Pump is on the lower pulley behind passenger front tire. Have to remove coolant tank, alternator and still can't see anything so you're feeling around doing everything...

What do Europeans use for tool storage?

This was from the maintenance shop of a factory I visited in the Netherlands several years ago. Worked with one of the guys from there adjusting some test fixtures, all I remember was that the drawers slid very smooth but not sure if that was top or bottom box.

    Favorite Youtube Tool Channel

I don't watch any network/cable TV, hardly any Netflix type streaming so it's YT 99% for me. My top 6 favorites: 1) Inheritance Machine 2) South Main Auto 3) Welker Farms 4) Blacktail Studio 5) Trail Recon 6) Neil Koch: Dig-Drive-DIY (edited from 5 to 6!)

    Hybrid water heater

If you use the full tank of hot water, and run it in hybrid mode, the electric heaters will kick on and in 60 minutes you'll have similar, 5-10 minutes, probably 2 hours for full recovery. Doesn't bother me too much as I only take 5-7 min showers. Ours is in the basement, so noise is not...

    Hybrid water heater

I have the AO Smith 50 gallon hybrid, installed in 2019, very happy with the energy savings. but wish I had gone with the 66 or even 80 gallon to give a bit more capacity. Works well unless anyone in your household takes a bath, then it's a quite long recovery time. It replaced an AO Smith 60...

    Porter Cable dead brand?

Many of us that grew up watching Norm on New Yankee Workshop saw the Porter Cable brand for the first time. I had a 13 amp Skil brand circular saw from the 80's that served me well as a homeowner and building a few decks for others. I had always had my eye on the PC 347 magnesium base when...

Do I even need to do anything to my garage floor?

Yes this To me a floor is just another shop fixture that holds everything in place, it's meant to get used, and like a quality tool you can use it and try not to abuse it and it will last a lifetime. It may have some small chips or stains in 10 years, but it's part of the character and will...

    32x56x16 Interior

What a great blank canvas. My only thought on the TV under south window... unless you're putting a shade over the window or only watching TV after sunset, you'll have a bright glare into your eyes.

    Bit Ratchets

I'll second this recommendation. We use these at work in a factory setting, not enough volume to justify expensive torque control pneumatic drivers but they work great for the application, super smooth.
