Millers Falls 1769-1773 Brace - Need info about the Lion Chuck

    Seems like it's a #2 Screw. Thoughts?

Millers Falls 1769-1773 Brace - Need info about the Lion Chuck

I broke out the calipers and did some measuring. Ball bearings seem to be very close to 1.5mm. Screw; Head diameter: 5.5mm Width of inner screw threads: 3mm Length: 5.5mm Now to see if I can find these two...

Millers Falls 1769-1773 Brace - Need info about the Lion Chuck

Ok. So I've done a bit more digging. It seems the bearing retention/location was changed on the Lion Chucks. They changed from a threaded ring type retainer on the front of the chuck to the screw through the octagonal shell, threaded into the main shell with the bearings between the octagonal...

Millers Falls 1769-1773 Brace - Need info about the Lion Chuck

"Not answering, but maybe some clues." ---- Ya, the chuck on the 769-774 is different than the one on the 1769-1773. Although they both use the Leland jaws. The drawings and patents all look like the one on the 769-774 braces.

Millers Falls 1769-1773 Brace - Need info about the Lion Chuck

I bought a MF 1771 (12 inch Lion Ratchet Brace) online. The ratcheting was stuck, but some PB Blaster got that working perfectly. My problem is I cannot locate detailed information about its Lion Chuck with the Octagonal Shell. It is quite different than the one on the 769-774. Mine is missing...

Ya, probably. The only differences I see are the pulley and the fact that mine has a plate for the manufacturer info and the other one is stamped on the casing directly. Are you seeing any other differences? Thanks!

I think I narrowed it down to the manufacturer. It seems to be made by Marathon Electric. I was looking at a Bandsaw listing, and the casing and mounts are an exact match.

What did you do "IN" your garage today?

I took the motor off of my recent CL purchase. A 1940s Craftsman Mohawk Drill Press. It weighs a ton!

@FrankLee -- Never mind. I see it. It has a little flip top. This motor seems like it's meant to be mounted parallel to the ground as opposed to perpendicular. What do you think?

Can you point out what you're seeing? And yes, that is how mine is.

I'd have to check. But if that's the case, the user should be informed, and not just silently fail. :)

The switch is a General Electric. Perhaps the motor is too. There's just so much paint on it. The bearings are so smooth, I really don't want to mess with it. :) One question on the motor actually. There is no side play, but there is a small amount of play in and out. Is that normal? It is very...

My motor seems so much larger than yours. Here are a couple pics of my motor. Note: I have to keep using imgur because attaching pics to these threads does not seem to work for me...

Ok. I tried to move the motor up while attached to the mounting plate, but it was not working so well. So I just removed the whole thing. My gosh. That motor is heavy. I think I'll need help getting it back on. I slid the motor as far up as I could for now. From what I could tell the rods...
