Between 705 & 1200 SQ/FT The Garage at The Place in The Valley (Garage Condo 45x23x20)

Someone should place non shrink grout under the columns when they are done. If there is no blocking in the wall and I'm thinking there probably isn't, you could get them to snap a line on the wall at the bracket elevation and mark the brackets, then cut the drywall and install 2x6 or 2x8 wood...

flooring for weight set/work out area

I have the stall mats from Tractor Supply in my garage gym. Work great, very popular use for them. They smell a bit but it goes away after a few days.

    Industrial Metal Desks

Here is a chair I picked up for free. It's a Hamilton Cosco made in Columbus, Indiana. I think it is the Model 15-S secretarial chair made in the late 1950's.

Building my first workbench, plate steel is warped

Get some flat bar maybe 3x3/8 and a couple of C clamps, clamp it down to the 5x2 plate and weld it. Run it long ways on the 3/8 edge. Come off the edge a few inches each side. Strongback it to stiffen it and take the wow out. Or you could clamp it down to the table frame and weld it.

How I Did It - Loft Support Beam

Interesting approach. I would have welded shear plates to the columns, drilled the beams and bolted it up with two 5/8" A325 bolts at each connection. Your way should work too! Depends on what tools you have as to the quicker way. Nice job!

    Good beginner's welder

Re: Good beginners welder That's true! I work for a heavy mechanical & steel fabrication company and the pipe welders like Lincoln and the ironworkers like Miller.

    Welding galvanized pipe

You can grind back from your weld joint, however, the zinc is going be vaporized from the heat of the arc (which is where all the smoke comes from) so it's really not necessary except in certain conditions. You can run into some issues on certain joints, where you will get porosity if you don't...

    Garage Work Bench

4" thick? How much does that weigh? Maybe try a local welding shop or steel fabricator and get a simple steel base frame made up. 2x2x14ga tube for legs and some 2x2 angle to support the top.

How to black out your garage windows to keep people from looking in?

Home Depot sells window film that gives an etched glass look.

    Storage cabinets showed up...

I've got those in my Global Industrial shopping list! Seem like a good deal. I have some wall mount cabinets on my list too, but I haven't ordered anything yet. Shipping to me is a killer on these, but they look great. I keep striking out on CL, been looking for a while for something local, but...

    welding top

Call a local steel warehouse and get A36 plate burned to your size. It doesn't matter if it has mill scale on it, mill scale is not going to effect anything. Rust is not going to be an issue either. Just hit it with a grinder or wire wheel if you want to keep surface rust off. Depending on how...

    Industrial Metal Desks

I spent a couple of hours taking this beast apart. It's amazing to see how this was built. There is a mechanism in the rear for the drawers that I'm not sure what it does and the top connects with a latch type system similar to a window in your home, everything else unscrewed pretty easily. The...

    Industrial Metal Desks

I just saved of these from my work, they were going to throw it away. It's manufactured by the Invincible Steel Furniture Company of Wisconsin. It's a tanker style and the top was some type of rubber that has dry rotted. It has a little surface rust but all the drawers work fine so I'm going to...

    Butcher block tops CHEAP

McMaster-Carr has butcher block tops, but they're not exactly cheap. I bought my tops from them. The have a bunch of sizes and deliver next day. McMaster's tops are manufactured by John Boos. Grainger might have them too. Don't forget shipping charges as these ship by truck.

HF Toolboxes Workbench - Phase 3

Nice. My bench is very similar, even down to the paint. I work for a steel fabrication company so using steel was an obvious choice for me. I used 2x2x11ga tube for the legs and L2x2x3/16 for the frame. I started with a 24" x 8'-0" frame, then I added another 24" x 8'-0" which I bolted to the...
