The linseed oil sounds like a good idea. Its more durable for daily use than paint would be. I use the linseed oil on hammer heads that I clean up and restore all the time. Will post pictures in a few days when I get it done.

Thanks for the Info. Was thinking about the original colors. There was not any trace of paint on it and I could not find any info or pictures of one. Black was my first thought.

I have a Prentise Monark Lion Head vise that I am restoring and was needing to know original paint color. It has numbers 209 and 210 by the lion head emblem. It has 2-1/2" jaws. Any help is appreciated.

Picked up this Craftsman ratchet at an estate auction and I can't find any info on the age or who made it. Any help identifying it would be appreciated.
