    Show your new tool arrivals

I bought one of these Sunnex boxes off eBay a couple years ago. With a die grinder I opened up a few more holes so I could store my long 1/2 drive breaker bars.

Do people really care where tools are made

I totally agree. You can only rob Peter to pay Paul for so long.

What penetrant do you use to pre-soak rusted bolts?

The absolute best product available. I can't figure out why Kano Labs hasn't expanded their sales by selling to distributors nationwide.

HF 44 vs. Snapon Classic 60

If tjpavlov uses the readily available Harbor Freight coupons, for $800 he can pick up the 44" bottom box, 44" top box and be real close to having enough to snag a side box as well. It took a lot of thought (soul searching) but a year ago that's what I did. I compared Sears boxes to the Harbor...

If you want USA made Craftsman sockets, order them while they last.

My days of buying new Sears hand tools are probably done. I haven't bought any new Craftsman sockets in a couple years now because I've gradually been replacing them with used Snap-On sockets purchased on Ebay when a good deal is to be found.

Ratchet Torque Test Hod Rod Magazine

Sorry. I didn't know there was another post about the HRM ratchet tests or I wouldn't have wasted yours or my time.

Ratchet Torque Test Hod Rod Magazine

On page 116 in the October, 2013 issue of Hot Rod Magazine, staff members conduct failure lab tests on eleven 1/2" drive ratchets. By failure test I mean force is applied to the ratchet mechanism until point of failure. All ratchets were priced around $20. A couple were used ones picked up...

    oh sh*t moments

Two boo-boos come to mind. One cost some money to correct, the other wounded my pride. The first occurred 46 years ago when I was a 17 year old high school senior hired by the local Chevrolet dealer to help out in the parts department during the afternoons and Saturday morning. I also emptied...

Knipex and channellock clearanced at lowes

I've seen that to, especially on the newer Craftsman red and blue screwdrivers. The tips are for sure softer because when you get a good grip on one, the tip will twist/bend whereas in the old days it stood a good chance of breaking off a corner. That tells me that the manufacturer has...

So why exactly would I buy something from Sears again?

I will not buy foreign made Craftsman tools at the Sears store as long as the supply of US made Craftsman tools doesn't dry up on Ebay. If in the event all Craftsman tools are made overseas, and I need a replacement, I'll buy used Snap-On or Mac. I don't thinks Sears has lowered the prices of...

    Central Texas Tool

A shining example of an apprentice program at its best, and still works for them. Too bad apprenticeships have been done away with at a lot of facilities when the onslaught of outsourcing overseas really took hold. Texas Country Reporter (TCR) is one of my favorite programs on the RFD...

No more Craftsman over the counter?

I think the Sears marketing types probably realize that they have lost the "professional user" market and are relying solely on the average homeowner, and possibly the occasional mechanic to keep the tool sales afloat. The Industrial and Profesional Craftsman lines were/are decent but I think...

How many techs own there own shop tools?

    >>I'd rather own old dirty worn out Snap on tools, than buy new shiny Chinese craftsman junk!!<< Amen!

    Craftsman RH Plated Ratchets, Taiwanese??

I've picked up everal of the round head, chrome plated Craftsman ratchets for my collection. They are 9 43797 1/2" dr., 9 43796 3/8 dr., 2 43795 1/4" dr., and 9 4378 3/8" dr flex. It hit me like a ton of bricks, none of these are stamped USA. I have a sneaking suspicion these probably 10-15...
