    Cordless drill opinions??

I have an 18v makita li-ion set (drill/impact) for the past couple years and it's holding up well. The batteries don't last all that long under heavy work but I also got the smaller batteries (not the bigger lxt or whatever). The nicest thing is the 15min charge time. The tools themselves are...

Do you use a ratcheting screwdriver?

I have a couple. One's the ratcheting handle with the gear wrench driver kit (screwdriver/torx/nutdriver). The other was a no name that came with a pc repair kit. I've used both quite a bit and prefer them to standard screwdrivers. The gear wrench handle has a 3 positions, ratcheting tension for...

Why are American's tool boxes so big?

A lot of it depends on the tools I'm sure. I can't say since I don't know what other countries use (imagine mostly if not all metric). American techs have to have standard and metric and we have a whole variety of cars we have to work on. Not to mention as time goes on, everything requires a...

who makes the smallest & lightest 1/4" 12v cordless impact?

You said 12v, makita makes an 18v that's pretty small and lightweight in 1/4". Sorry if I don't buy into the whole "if it's not snap on it's junk". Plenty of overpriced snappy junk out there. I got by just fine in a pro shop without a single snap on tool in my box.

Most expensive tool for one use

Camshaft alignment tool for cooper mini. Assenmacher aren't wallet friendly, considering each vehicle needs a different damn tool and considering what it is - essentially just a flat friggin bar. http://www.amazon.com/dp/B00FGV0Z0S/?tag=atomicindus08-20

    Ten Must Have Tools

Only 10? Going along the lines of asking a genie for more wishes, how about just 1. A credit card to buy all the tools I need lol. Honestly I don't know if I could get by with just 10, but it would really depend on the situation and what the needs are. Is it for a motorcycle? Mountain bike...

How old is this Stanley #4 I found?

Keep in mind, even if it's not pristine enough to sell as a collector piece (provided you don't want to keep it) a lot of guys will be interested in it as a quality every day working plane. So long as the tote and knob are in good shape (no major cracks), all the parts are working and the sole...

How old is this Stanley #4 I found?

This link should help you identify it provided all the parts are original. Sometimes, especially with older working planes they get modified with parts off others that didn't come with it. Key areas to look at are the handles (front knob height), materials, patent date, color of japanning, frog...

Cars falling off lifts - why?

It depends a lot on the operator. I've worked with both in ground center post hydraulic lifts and 2 post symmetrical above ground lifts (all rotary brand). Yes there are spring loaded mechanical teeth that engage as a lift goes up (above ground style). The thing of it is though, to reduce chance...

did I miss the discussion on this very eye-opening bit of news?

It would appear they somehow obtained specific patents regarding multi cell batteries capable of 20amp output - perhaps sony should be suing milwaukee since they developed the first commercially available li-ion battery back in 1991. Everyone is sue happy. They can't keep up with the...

Woodworkers, old school hand tools that can realistically replace powertools i...

I've started looking into hand tools more for hobby, but after watching some pros with hand tools I think some of it boils down to what you're familiar with. Unless it's a hobby/passion, and unless it's truly an inferior tool (such as a power saw with a lot of play that causes poor cuts) the end...

Inexpensive way to get amp draw?

I'll have to check the box on the pole, I think there's customer access to the lower portion (where the first 200amp service breaker is). I wasn't around when it got installed so I can't say for sure. There is a ground rod at the pole yes. That was part of the inspection during their install...

Inexpensive way to get amp draw?

Ok. My setup would be #3 since there's a main/disconnect on the pole. Separate structure (if you want to call a pole a structure). Currently neutral is isolated from ground. Ground is bonded to panel enclosure only and main ground lug is attached to ground wire to ground rod. Only difference...
