    The Porter-Cable A4 Worm Drive

Still looks less terrifying than my flush-cut toe kick saw... one of those tools I bought for a single project before Fein multi oscillating tools, and all the other brands to follow, were a thing.

    The Porter-Cable A4 Worm Drive

While the Porter Cable A4 is a beautiful panel saw, I personally prefer the Skil 67 'blue label' for ripping and 'fine tuning' anything 3/4" and under. I definitely admire the A4 and if I ever find one in the wild for a 'reasonable' price, I probably wouldn't say no. My favorite and most...

    6.5" vs 7.25" circ saw

I have a Skil 67 6-1/2" wormdrive, a couple off 77 7-1/4" wormdrives, a 825 8-1/4" wormdrive, a 107 10" worm drive and a 127 12" wormdrive. I love the wormdrive for line of sight and controlability, the 67 is a great, lightweight saw with a pretty compact design which is GREAT as a plywood /...

What did you do "IN" your garage today?

The brushes on the 107 are 0.2500 x 0.7490 x 0.8750 deep. As for the switch, they are the same switch on the 67 - 127 series of the era, but are not the same as the modern switches. They were made by CH / Eaton and are MUCH more durable and user servicable than the modern switches.... BUT...

I still have the original Skil 10" blade it came with, just haven't got around to cleaning it up yet, but the 10" carbide diablo's do VERY well on these saws and are quick and easy to modify in the field if you need a replacement. Just need a dremel, scratch awl, small needle file and a a...

Me or the saw? :ROFLMAO: Its a gift for a very skilled carpenter friend of mine. When I started the project, they were actively working in the trade, however, the winter after our big move to Oregon, they had a very significant skiing accident that resulted in multiple surgeries and a pretty...

What did you do "IN" your garage today?

Just did the finishing touches on my Skil 107 tonight and put on the labels that @mattblast made up for this project. Very happy with how it all came together. It has some a LONG way from where I found it 2 years ago!

It's been a few years, time for another Skil resto - Skil 107

Finally finished the complete restoration of this Skil 107 this evening. A HUGE shout out to @mattblast for the amazing reproduction labels for this saw! They look absolutely amazing and really helped bring the saw together into a finished product. It definitely came a long way from...

It's been a few years, time for another Skil resto - Skil 107

Modern cordless tools are, in my opinion, much more focused on enhancing ergonomics of the tools to reduce repetitive motion injury by making tools more compact and lighter, are also focused on providing more compact tooling to accomplish work easier in tighter spaces and working conditions, all...

It's been a few years, time for another Skil resto - Skil 107

Indeed. The fact that many of the saws I have restored over the years just needed a thorough cleaning, new gaskets, lube and brushes and run like new, despite being 60~80+ years old at this point, is a testament to just how well these saws were made. Built to last LIFETIMES.

It's been a few years, time for another Skil resto - Skil 107

Just got the brushes and new brush caps in today and powered the saw on for the first time and it RUNS and runs smooth. I cycled it for about 20 minutes and visually inspected the input and output seals and NO leaks! Despite being disassembled for 2+ years the original leather seals are still...

Finger grips are a MUST when shadowing tools!!! I have a 3/4" round tip on the end of a hot knife that I use for doing all my finger grips and for also smoothing out foam when not cutting full depth. It makes making them quick and consistent. Long nose sharpies are also a MUST for anyone...
