    The VISES of Garage Journal

Va. Mine is labeled Flexivise Company on one side, and Los Angeles California on the other side. Ive seen what I assume is a later version with a cylindrical screw head as opposed to the large round ball on mine. Sent from my SM-G965U using The Garage Journal mobile app

    The VISES of Garage Journal

So I haven't had a lot of free time over the last year or so to devote to many vise restorations, but I have been picking up the occasional vise here and there. Recently I posted some pictures of in Athol 624 that I cleaned up for my dad with a baked BLO finish that turned out really nice and I...

So what I have previously done and had success with is applying 3-4 liberal coats of BLO allowing some drying time in between. Then I fired up the charcoal BBQ, I get it nice and hot and leave it in until I get the desired effect.. The hotter the part gets the darker the BLO will turn. Sent...

    The VISES of Garage Journal

I've been away for a while, busy on many other projects but I recently acquired a Athol 624 that I wanted to clean up and give to my dad, to replace his Wilton homeowners style vise. Decided to go with a baked BLO finish, it turned out nicely and works like new. These Athol's definitely are nice...

If ever you want to sell that vise please let me know I've been looking for one for years. Rock Island was the first vise I ever restored, and my birthday is cast onto the side of that vise.. Thank you sir, have a wonderful day, Brett

This showed up in the Portland OR. Craigslist. A very cool old pattern makers vise. The price dosent seem to unreasonable either.

Here are my few non sparking tools. A Berylco set of lineman pliers, and a few brass hammers

Drives: I don't know anything about the maker, but that is a beautiful piece of art. If I had an extra 3'gs laying around that would be inside my house somewhere, maybe even remodel the kitchen around it. But definitely not in the vise budget as of now.

I as well found my first Berylco tool this summer. They are made of Berrillium, and you don't want to ever breathe any kind of grinding from Berrillium. The lineman pliers I got have a warranty where Berylco will sharpen the cutting edges of their tools, to keep us from doing it.. BTW these...

That is looking an awful lot like the many Morgan vises I have at home. They as well only have markings on the opposite side of the one in the photo, and from what I can make out the Jaws look to be the same shape as Morgan as well, not to mention the Snout on the screw seems to match as well. I...

I'm not even sure where this came from, I found it amongst my tools at work. Until I did some research I had no idea what it was. That is one of the neat things I like about these old tools is the stories behind them.

    Hammer time!

New brass hammer prices are ridiculous I was looking all summer at garage sales then within a week I found 2 Proto 1lb'ers, a replaceable brass head 1 lb and a nice unmarked about 3 lb. All were picked up at great prices, anymore if I see any brass almost anything I buy it

DRIVES: I can't tell exactly but I don't think the picture you posted is the R.I. I'm looking for. The one I want has more of a barrel body and has a patent date of Oct. 5 1901 on the side, which happens to be my birthday 70 some years later. If your is that vise and your not to attached let...

Thank you. For the most part the smaller ones are good. My 5" are like new and the 6" jaws are hammered but I have a plan to replace those. I do plan on having Kevin Make me some jaws for really cool 6" Simplex that has a neat history but needs some love. That will be later this winter as well
