Quick Poll: Blade Left or Right Circular Saw

Thanks for the replies. I could use clarification on the right handed vs left handed distinction. Is it just, "right handed saws have the blade on the left, and left handed saws have the blade on the right"? Because... ...my blade right sidewinder's instructions are to operate the trigger...

Quick Poll: Blade Left or Right Circular Saw

Finding a consistently reliable straight edge guide for my blade right saw has driven me to take up a blade left. The guide side of the shoe on my blade right is covered by the motor housing, so I can't clamp or hold a speed square. Which side do you drive on? And what's your straight edge...

VISE REPAIR 101 all vise repairs, lubricants, sources for parts and the tricks to fix

Could someone please tell me what it means to "mike" a main screw? I bought some parts on an auction site, and the seller was describing some repair work he'd done recently on some vises. Here is what he said the "mike" part is at the very end, but I included the set-up for context: "I was...

Opinions of Speed Out's to remove screws

Improvised Impact Driver My 20v drill wasn't providing enough torque to extract a stripped screw from a jaw facing. I've had good luck with a Speed Out for this situation, but my manual impact driver can't chuck up a Speed Out. This seemed like a long shot, but it worked. Recalling Get's advice...

Help me read a vernier caliper

Thank you for this explanation. This makes perfect sense. I know the shadow in the photos is right at the critical reading point for the inches side, but I read you.

    Vintage Tool Catalog Website

This may be old news to most of you, but I just stumbled upon something called the Internet Archive. I searched "Craftsman Tools" and found a few catalogs including one from 1940 scanned in hi-res with a nifty viewer. There's also a Stanley catalog from 1900.

Help me read a vernier caliper

Several web searches have explained how to read the metric scale to the second decimal place, but I don't understand how the Imperial units are read. I guess the first question is, how accurate is this tool? 1/32", 1/64", etc... Photo two shows the outer diameter of the washer a hair over...

    Craftsman 5169 Vise Help

While I was disassembling my 5169 I lost the front piece with the model number stamped on it. I'm hoping a washer will work as a replacement. Problem is the only pics I can find of it show it attached. If anyone could post pics of a loose one or provide dimensions I would really appreciate it.

VISE REPAIR 101 all vise repairs, lubricants, sources for parts and the tricks to fix

Finally got that awful light green paint off of my Craftsman 5196... And discovered… Apparently it wasn't "reinforced at all points of strain," as advertised. I noticed that the front oil port with the check ball doesn't accept a normal old-fashioned oil can tip. The tip looks like it...

    1955 Craftsman Vise Rehab

Look what I discovered today when I got the paint removed from my 5196: Just what you were describing. I guess it wasn't "reinforced at all points of strain," like they said it was.
