The Gimmick Tool addiction thread! :)

The Stanley folding chisel is nice! I don't think it's a gimmick, it's just good for keeping in a tool apron. I think I remember owning a FastCap one as well that cracked when I hammered on it in cold weather. Never had that problem with the Stanley.

Erroneous Lufkin 100' Tape measure.. BE AWARE !

Regarding burning an inch / foot / whatever. I had a superintendent on a commercial job who would get mad if he saw anyone doing that for layout. The rationale was that it won't matter if your room is ~1/16" too wide... You're gonna get minute errors from the thickness of chalk lines etc... But...

    DBE Wrench with deepest reach

Stahlwille Stabil are the only deep offset DBE's I've owned, so I'm not sure how they compare to the others. The look about the same as the Boxo ones pictured above.

    Lets talk levels

I've owned Stanley, Empire, Mastercraft, Johnson, and Stabila, and used lots of others. I like Stabila's R-Beam levels best. And I find magnetic ones annoying, even when hanging doors. If I was on a budget, I've had good luck with Johnson.

    Canadian Tire DEALS

That's the one! For the decks and handrails, a ratcheting wrench would have worked fine, but I just cut the carriage bolts to length and used an impact wrench. I don't remember the garage door situation exactly, but I think I was tightening the track to the brackets that secure it to the...

    Canadian Tire DEALS

There were a couple times last week where a pass-thru socket set would have come in handy for carpentry work (garage door install with very little room on either side of the door, and decks with longer than necessary carriage bolts), so I picked up a Mastercraft Maximum 50 piece 1/4" and 3/8"...

    Backwoods Hackery and Homemade tools

Not very innovative, but a simple one I made today was an eye-bolt driver. Took an extra 1/2" drive 3/4" deep socket, cut slots in the sides to fit the eye bolts, chucked it in my impact and installed them quickly and effortlessly. I only had about 12 to drive in, so time savings in...

10mm socket for an impact driver bit

Just curious how you like them, if you've had the chance to try them out? Thinking of ordering a set.

Is Dewalt coming out with a new table saw or should I buy this one?

This isn't quite what you asked, as I'm not in the loop about new Dewalt offerings, but I just wanted to say that it's my favorite jobsite table saw. 7480 is great as well, if size is a consideration and you don't need to use a dado stack.

Nail gun experts- Hitachi 15ga won't fire, but blower works

Not OP, but they've got an air blower built in to the nailer, for blowing sawdust etc. with air from the compressor.

Oscillating Saw and Multi-tool -- Opinions?

I've got a Fein and a Dewalt, and had a cordless Makita that I sold cause I never used it. In addition to echoing the thing about tool-less blade changes, I'd strongly suggest getting something with a variable speed dial, as opposed to variable speed trigger.

    Malco hex driver

I haven't tried the Malco ones, but I like their siding pliers. I did buy a product with a similar premise last week -- Dewalt's cleanable magnetic nutsetters. They work well and look to be available from 1/4" to 1/2" (I only got 1/4", 5/16", and 3/8"). I just bought them to use with tek screws...

    Miter Saws

I've had good luck with the Dewalt 780. It's tough. I used it for a few years, then rented it out to a crew I worked with on a long term job in a remote area. I provided just about everything powered for that job, and it was a hard life for tools out there. That saw was dropped off scaffold...

10mm socket for an impact driver bit

I can't post links yet, but there's s product on Amazon.com that I believe is what you need, but a set. VIM Tools NSM100 12-Piece Metric Power Drive Nut Setter with Magnetic and Hollow Point Drivers I'd like to get a set as I have Dewalt cordless tools and they don't make a 1/4" impact...

    Why NOT a tool vest

Those Atlas belts look pretty good to me, depending on an individual's needs. I've got an Occidental framers rig on a fall arrest harness, which is heavy but comfortable. And another one with the sheepskin pads and a couple bags removed that I use for finishing, but it's still bulkier than I'd...
