    Vulcan Tools (current production)

Our local farm store / ACE hardware just rebranded—out with the old Ace and Craftsman brand tools and in with Vulcan (supplied by Orgill). Full aisle of wrenches, sockets, breaker bars, etc. I picked up a couple wrenches to toy with, and fill gaps for a roadside toolkit. Overall quality seems...

    Poking Romex through drywall

I'm framing in a 58" wide, 16" deep, floor to ceiling wall in my finished family room to house a small recessed electric fireplace and to wall mount my television. The wall I'm framing this against is a finished, insulated, exterior wall and I'd like to keep the drywall in place in case we...

    Train Track Rail

I've seen several gates at gravel lots, tree farms, and ranches that used RR track. Always wondered how they get it. Neighbor kids use a length to "grind" and do tricks on their skateboards.

Cutting a Propane Tank - Best Gas Detector?

In my experience cutting open and making dozens of propane tank firepits and BBQ's, the mercaptan smells burns off in the first use. But your entire yard will smell like it for a week of your filled the tank with water and flushed some all over the lawn. 🤣

Cutting a Propane Tank - Best Gas Detector?

The following is not advice! Consider it for entertainment purposes only! Propane is dangerous, as is cutting open used fuel tanks of any type. Do not attempt. /warning over I work for a company that has roughly 30,000 propane tanks on lease for business and residential use. These range from...

What would you put today in a hand-assembled roadside tool kit for a truck or car?

Sure, pick ONE scenario to draw a conclusion from. What about.... you're 150 miles from home, you roll down the window to pay the parking attendant as you get ready to go to the big game and your drivers window doesn't roll back up? Gunna go home instead? It's snowing, it's late, you're on...

Wife's tools? Need some kitchen knives. Good value?

Yeah, way up. But what isn't? I still scored a wusthof classic 8" chefs and 3.5" pairing knife from Amazon over the holidays for $130. Didn't feel bad at all about that!

    Mason String holder

I've been using a piece of3/8 rebar lately. Call mE nuts but it unwinds easily and you already have the rebar to pound into the ground for your first stake. When finished, chuck it into a low speed cordless drill and wind it back up (carefully!!!).

    Bits instead of Allen keys

This. The bit sets are nice and often faster... as are a good set of T handles, but why WOULDNT you have a decent set of L-keys I just bought my (15th?) set of Eklind USA L keys from ace hardware for under $3. An 11 piece set with a holder. I've got an SAE and a metric set in every tool box...

What would you put today in a hand-assembled roadside tool kit for a truck or car?

Yeah, I'd never try and remove a stuck thermostat, bypass a leaky heater core, disconnect a dragging parking brake, or retighten a wiper motor that rattled loose in a downpour, re-adjust a transmission shift selector switch because a pickup was stuck in 1st, etc on newer than a 1994 if I was...
