    Need a good Adjustable Wrench.

I have some old Protos that are great. I also have some vintage USA-made Crescent adjustables which are very good. The best ones I have are vintage Williams, made in Jamestown Very little slop. I have an old Husky, which stays in my truck. I have a few Craftsman wrenches made by Western Forge...

Is cheater pipes on bolt cutters okay or no?

You can use a cheater bar on anything once.

    Broken Joists

Excellent advise, everyone. I'm thinking an I-beam might be better than a 4x4. The screw columns might be a better way to go, at least as a temporary brace until I get the blocks properly seated. I'll see what I can find. I greatly appreciate the feedback.

    Broken Joists

Well, I did kinda have some tool boxes in there, and kept adding tools a little at a time, not realizing how heavy it had gotten. I also had some old, very heavy speakers in there. So I had too much weight in one spot. Live and learn, I suppose. That said, I do think true blocking would have...

    Broken Joists

Agreed. I realize it's not that important, but I figured at least sealing the cracks would make me feel better. LOL.

    Broken Joists

The wood glue won't do much structurally, but it can't hurt. I will use construction adhesive on the sistering boards, along with clamps, to hold them in place while I nail them in. (That sounds raunchy.) I feel like that should be be pretty solid. One thing that I think could have prevented...

    Broken Joists

I have about 2 feet of crawl space, some of which is occupied by HVAC ducting, so it's tight. I'm also not as thin as I used to be. The existing joists are 2x8, and they are about 10 feet long. The house has two beams, basically under the hall. The sheathing is diagonal wooden boards. It was...

    Broken Joists

Well I walked into my Man Cave/Office, and noticed the floor felt weird. Also noticed my speaker towers were leaning a bit away from the wall, as is a chest of drawers which hold DVDs and Blu-Rays. I put a ball on the floor and it quickly rolled to the center of the room. Uh oh. So I crawled...

Another One Gone - Wal Mart and Hart Split the Sheets

Hart had a few gems in their hand tool lineup, but I saw no reason to get into their power tool ecosystem, because I was afraid that this would happen. I did like their storage containers, which look to me like they are mostly made by Keter. I guess I'll keep an eye out for clearance deals...

    ICON slip joint plier

A lot of it is the cross-hatching. They grip like lineman pliers, but can also grip really round stock in the mid area. Plus they can fit where regular slip-joints can't. Just a good design, IMO.

    ICON slip joint plier

I keep looking at the 10" version, and it's nice, but a 7" version would be more useful IMO. I recently bought the Workpro version, which is nowhere near as good, so I'll be giving it away. Also, Channellock needs to start making these again.

    ICON slip joint plier

I love Wilde pliers. They are probably my favorite, other than the Ideal/Craftsan pliers, but the small ones are nearly useless in the wide position. The handle shape prevents them from closing well. I also have some Truecraft spring-loaded adjustable pliers that are quite handy.

    Flex Power Tools

I'm not surprised that they had a tough time getting a hold of the market. I feel the same way about Metabo HPT. Both of these brands have a bigger market in Europe, but average DIYers, Pro-Sumers, and even professionals are not likely to be as familiar with them compared to...

Evapo Rust (and similar products) and flash rust after use?

For small parts and tools, I will put them in a ziplock bag with just enough to cover them, and try to get as much air out as possible. This way I don't use as much, I can check on it, and flip the bag over, etc. Plus I don't have to worry about the container getting knocked over by wind/cats or...
