Lift options for garage with 10' Ceiling

Well, it's always the next search that delivers results...what's the general opinion on Challenger lifts? https://www.challengerlifts.com/products/clfp9/

Lift options for garage with 10' Ceiling

Reviving this thread from last year. Just bought a house with a 34x26 3-bay garage and finally have room to add a lift. I'm looking at a 10k 2-post lift that will handle my Ram 3500 crew cab long box diesel that weighs in around 8500 lbs. The challenge is that the ceiling height is 10' 5"...

    AFCI Tripping on Lighting Circuit

UPDATE: This is a Bryant AFCI and it has 2 LEDs that indicate the trip reason when it trips. It looks like it's tripping for "Arc Fault or PTT Passed"...I guess that means it is detecting an arc somewhere. It's definitely the fluorescent lights because the breaker doesn't trip with them off...

    AFCI Tripping on Lighting Circuit

Went out to the garage last night to turn off the lights and....they were already off. Breaker had tripped again. Frequency of trips is increasing to every other day, not sure if I have a wiring problem that's getting worse or the breaker is failing.

    AFCI Tripping on Lighting Circuit

Yeah, I didn't have a good experience with this electrician. Instead of using my guy, I let the contractor bring in his guy....big mistake....He originally installed a 20 amp AFCI breaker on a circuit fed with 100% #14 wire (I changed it out for a 15a AFCI). When the "inspector" came, it...

    AFCI Tripping on Lighting Circuit

This whole install was done in Jan of 2017, so almost a year old. The infrequent occurrence makes me reluctant to operate with one or more fixtures offline.

    AFCI Tripping on Lighting Circuit

UPDATE: AFCI Tripping on Lighting Circuit So all the lights in my 24x30 garage are on one circuit, fed by a 15a AFCI breaker in the garage subpanel. This is a brand new garage built about a year ago and a new 100a subpanel installed. This circuit includes the four 6-bulb t8 fluorescents in...

24 by 24 garage, need lights

Good thread but looks like the OP ultimately decided to go T8 for the same reasons I did, namely cost of bulb replacement, cold weather start time and glare issues. Every application environment is different and there are qualitative properties about HOW the light is produced that bring...

24 by 24 garage, need lights

I built a 24x30 last year and did a fair amount of reading on lighting here and elsewhere. LEDs are still pricey per lumen although they last forever, so depends on what your budget is. The T5s win for lumen output, but the bulbs and fixtures are also pricey compared to T8 fixtures. I wound...

    Foil Insulation

Was thinking that also, rigid foam on the rafters, it would be up high enough to be away from sparks and heat and the foil coating would help. Right now I have very light storage over the collar ties, empty plastic bins, coolers, and the like. Easy access with a step ladder.

    Foil Insulation

The new garage is built and is going to need some insulation in the ceiling. I had an earlier thread going when the build started but wanted to get specific to this topic. The structure is 24x30 detached, 9' ceiling and 14' ridge height, with 2x4 walls. I have insulated the walls with R-13...

    Suspended ceiling in garage?

Nooo....Rafters are 16" OC. Collar ties are on every other rafter.

    Suspended ceiling in garage?

So the existing 2x10s are meant to serve as collar ties per the design, not joists, and so there is one every other rafter. I never spec'd a ceiling when the plans were being drawn because i figured "no big deal" to add sheetrock later. Doing some research and it looks like I would need to add...

    Suspended ceiling in garage?

So the new 24x30 detached garage is complete. Plans called for 2x10 ceiling joists 32" OC so I have clear floor space with no lolly columns. The builder used 24' 2x10's, impressive lumber for sure. Ventilated soffits combined with a continuous ridge vent will keep the place cool in the...
