Lot happening both at the day job and around the house/shop.
Did a mock up of the LS to check things, and with how tight it is decided to put the grinder cart back into it's original purpose as an engine stand.
It's cozy but it fits. I'll get it on a more stable stand than the cribbing and get...
Moving forward as I know the piper will come a calling and will need to do more field work soon....
Got things lined up with a friend to trade some work around. He's a great bodyman but isn't fond of mechanical work, and I like mechanical stuff but have limited body work skills. So I'm going...
Did pick up a new toy to help with some ideas I have for the scout build... Einstar 3D scanner.
Figured the Ford 205 would be a good "small" part to get a feel for the process, learn the software, see if Scan Spray or marking dots help, things like that.
Definitely a learning curve but not...
Let's try and catch things up a bit...
Upside, found a solid glass guy who did a fantastic job of cutting and installing glass. Thankfully the seal was a much better fit than both of us thought it would have been. Found some BookFace Market place tires, a set of wheels, that I gave the ole...
Little more updates from the longer holiday time off.
White board on the garage door...
Got all the old carpet scrapped out and partially dusted off on scout
Sunday spent some quality time getting ahead while waiting on parts and to get through this inspection process.
Started laying...
Hope everyone had a wonderful Christmas!
Tuesday started off fine, scout fired right up and was letting it warm up a bit before loading on the trailer.
Took a minute to admire how good things are...
Realized I needed a bit more room to load up and moved truck/trailer and came back to a...
Busy weekend as the first big step to getting this project off the ground is tomorrow.... Certified VIN inspection and "road worthiness" inspection. Need this to move from a Bill of Sale to a title. Lights, wipers, horn, are what CHP lists as need to show but nothing on actually driving...
Have you looked into or use any of the heat shrink label makers? I use a Brother label maker and Brother heat shrink tubing that it can print on. Made the last trailer I rewired for a friend much easier to ID down the road. We will see how long those tubes are readable but was fast and easy...
It really is sad how things have changed in the off-road community and people don't want to learn or try things outside the norm.
We have a lot of parallels in our experiences that drove us away from clubs. I got tired of the local club wanting to repeat the same trails, wanting to party more...
With the good conversation going on regarding tools and prep for wheeling trips.... this might be a good time to talk about how I carry stuff.
Under driver's seat, from the back is a 30ft strap, and from the front is my winch controller. Passenger seat covers my ARB twin compressor.
Factory...
It's a good point to bring up. It has become my normal over the years and I have adjusted what I carry based on those choices.
I also know you can't make it any more broke, to a degree, and will make sure I limp to an area where I am out of the way so others can get by me. I don't like the...
Yessir, been there and done that with spoons and tools on hand in the truck. It's not ideal but the space gained and weight lost from not having a complete beadlock wheel is a worthy trade off, for me. 17" beadlock is a 45-50# of dead weight, on top of a ~100# 40" tire.
2014 is when I started...
Not sure. I know with the Gen 3 5.3 and the early NV4500 I have, the bellhousing didn't mate up. It was close and the NV4500 bellhousing would index off the alignment dowel pins but not all of the bolts lined up. If you have a later NV4500 (post 95, I think), it may work.
I didn't dig into...
Got a bunch more cleaning done and figured out what the random cut out and bump out at the rear pass side was... Someone scabbed in a rear heater....
Started checking on where to mount the spare tire. Worth noting since I will run beadlocks, I am only going to mount the tire, no wheel...
