I finally (long story) got my 3 car garage VCT project completed and wanted to know if anyone has put a clear epoxy over the VCT to 'seal' it.
The two car side of my garage has been completed for a couple months but I just finished the 3rd car section and the work area behind it. The two car...
What they are intending to do (I assume) is drill holes in the existing floor, stake it with rebar and pour the new floor over it. If the garage has a footer, I would make them cut the pad out (leaving the sides) and repour the entire thing. I've seen this done in basements where they...
I used a product by DAP that I got at Lowe's in a gallon bucket for a little over $12 that is called Concrete Patch and Repair or something like that. Worked pretty well, setup fairly quick and is sandable. The only issue with it is you can't put it down more than about 1/4 inch thick or it...
I had to pull up a tile that I screwed up (the glue wasn't cured... but not wet either) 30 seconds after I laid it down and I seriously doubt that these tiles will come up after the adhesive has dried witout some kind of machine to get them up.
Also keep in mind that I had just dropped the tile...
A few options are to put a layer of U-coat it clear over the tile. They put it over vinyl so it should work fine. I'm considering this myself.
Another is to just get a set of cheap runners or floor mats to put down in the walk ways when it snows. I might do this regardless for the wife. she's a...
I just started to install the VCT yesterday in my 640sqft garage. The black and white is really starting to look pretty cool.
My neighbor is a Walmart supercenter manager and came over to take a peek. His response was "wow, I never thought of that.... that is the exact same flooring we put down...
Speaking of ucoatit, I saw a informational blurb they did about the product on the TV show "my classic car" and they say you can put down different vinyl patterns and use their clear product to 'seal' it in.
I'm beginning to wonder if that wouldn't be the product to put over the VCT and never...
I looked at all the different epoxy coatings and the cost to do my 640 sq ft garage just wasn't feasible, not to mention I can't have my garage unusable for a week + while I install and let it dry during the nights and weekend I have available.
The Armstrong VCT tile was the best option for me...
That looks excellent! I cannot wait to get started on mine. I called HD today and they have the tiles in stock (although probably not enough to do my 650sq ft garage). I plan on picking them up sometime this week....
This is excellent info!!!
I think I've found the answer to my question... thanks to GLF and Wizard!
I went to Lowe's last evening and they had the vinyl tiles, but I don't think they were the VCT product. I also didn't see the VCT products listed on Armstrong's website. Please advise as I want...
Looks great! Is there a coating (maybe a clear epoxy) that you could put over this to permanently seal it from spills and chips that would never require refinishing?
Would it be possible to put down the cheap Armstrong tiles from Home Depot and then put a clear sealer down over it. Maybe the clear Behr epoxy they sell at HD?:dunno:
I thought about that. My concern would be the epoxy seeping in through the tape and making the lines look bad. I just painted the dining room in our house and even with the most expensive tape HD sold, the paint still seeped through the edges of the tape in places on to the trim.
