I completely agree. I have both old style Snapon, instinct Snapon, old Mac, newer Mac, and some Matco. All of them are good as far as the tips. I haven't had any of them fail and my favorite grip is the Matco made by Witte. I no longer have a Matco man in my area, so if I was to need more...
I have a set of both metric and sae long pattern gearwrench in one of my trucks. I highly recommend them. I would rate them better than the old craftsman raised panels. they do have a modified open end like proto ASD.
I have Williams supercombos. And I must say they are great. And they aren't too spend either. I might have to get some wright grips to fill in my second set since they are so well regarded.
