I wonder if the age and time period the tool was made would make a difference? Some companies cold forge and do induction hardening instead of hot forge and oil quench?
I guess what started to kill off the 3/4" drive was the 1/2" drive 24" breaker bar and flex head ratchet? I use those still. But I remember, when they didn't cut it. I'd have to resort to the bigger tools. But most guys probably just put a cheater pipe on the 1/2" drive 24" tools?
I have the 12V 1/4" cordless ratchet from Snap On. I really like it. I also have the 3/8" Version. But the one I have has a bigger ratchet head and is rated at 45 Ft. Lbs. Now true it is close to 10lbs more powerful. But it is a bulkier head. I also have a Skil 1/4" cordless ratchet. But it only...
One of the shops I was at had a 1" drive socket set for us to use. I still have the 3/4" to 1" adaptor. So all the 3/4" drive stuff I have seen on eBay must be from equipment guys and farmers selling their extra tools? I figured some of the big rig guys used them too? But I guess I was mistaken?
I'll keep that in mind. I also switched to the impact sockets. Picked up some Genius brand short & deep with a free 1/4" impact swivel. Got tired of die grinding the square ends with a cone tip stone bit to reshape them for warranty or reuse. I have a feeling the Matco is like the...
If you get that 4ft handle. You can also get a breaker bar head for it. And although I didn't work on Big Rigs. I worked on lifts and equipment before going back to cars. Some as large as diesel trucks. I think one company wanted us to have wrenches up to 2" capacity? Not too many of the guys...
Skip the cheater bars. You or someone else will get hurt eventually. And your ratchets or breaker bars will get all chewed up in no time. Get the Snap On 3/4" ratchet set with interchangable handles. Or the snap on 3/4" torque wrench. And buy the long handle seperate. It will fit the 3/4"...
Hazet is good. They make tools for Audi,VW & other German brands. I have a 24" Irega Spanish made Crescent wrench. And one of my Channellock crescent wrenches also says made in Spain. I like some German tools. Never tried French Facom or English brands.
Snap On doesn't rely on volume sales like Craftsman. So their profit ratio for one sale is much greater. Where as Sears has to sell more volume of ratchets to make a profit. Now I love Snap On ratchets as much as the next guy. But I'm leary of getting the new series. But I have not tried them...
The Matco Unit is the shortest on the market. Snap On makes a 3/8" & 1/4" drive 7.2V
I have the Snap On 1/4" Drive & the Millwaukee 3/8" drive 12 volt. Plus a Bosch Impactor. So I think I can do without the Matco for a few years? But for everyday use, it is better to have a square anvil of the...
Cornwell Makes Good Wrenches & Sockets. But be careful! Alot of there other tools are Taiwan made these days. For Ex. many of their pliers, allen & Torx bit sockets... Double check anything sold on a Cornwell or Mac truck that comes in case these days. Snap On sells Taiwan made tools also. But...
