Should I buy TWO compressors or one big one?

It's been mentioned a little, but I'd wonder a bit if the Husky's can put out those numbers. Maybe you don't need that max rated output. I'd get two. A good two stage, and a decent four gallon for running around.

Laminate flooring, tell me the deal.......

I don't care for it on steps, but it can be used. Because it's supposed to float, it feels slightly insecure on steps, and the trim needed is very expensive. I wouldn't use it in a bathroom, folks have mentioned seams puffing up from moisture and it's tough to reliably stop water from getting...

Laminate flooring, tell me the deal.......

We put in a bunch here and there. If you're buying a new chop saw, check if it'll make the cut. Usually a 10" saw doesn't quite reach and it gets worse if you need an angle. I use a cheap framing blade, the laminate will dull the blade quickly. I'd never use a good cross cut blade and it isn't...

    bending a 2x4 with steam

You could also check to see if it's possible to make the facing material a little thicker. Might be the same work to make the facing 3" thick and use it as is and save the time on the laminate.

How to finish a stainless steel table with a brushed metal look?

If you're happy with the look, maybe try going to a more course grit until it throws off light reflections enough so it doesn't show smudges. I wouldn't bother with clear coating a surface that I already knew was going to get scratched up. Good luck with it

    bending a 2x4 with steam

Careful trying a table saw rip that long with framing lumber. It's not some magically stable material. Chances are it'll pinch or curl apart as you make the cut and bind. Just snap a chaulk line and use the circular saw, then kick yourself because it didn't stay flat like your window. I think...

    baldor 3 phase grinder

If you can use a grinder and that ones working right, you'll never regret setting up a baldor. I'd also agree that the way to run three phase motors off of one phase at home would be the VFD. As a bonus you get variable speed with good torque at low rpm's. Many folks buy 3ph motors to run...

    12" disc sander recomendations

Not a big deal at all William. I know they grind metal, but not ideal at least as far as I know. Powermatic lists all their large diameter disc grinders as woodworking machines, and just to be sure I checked a few abrasive suppliers. I only see aluminum oxide, very little silicon carbide and no...

    12" disc sander recomendations

I have a 9" disc set up. Big advantage in cost and selection to use standard sized sheet of abrasive paper. I just use spray adhesive, then turn the disc running a shop knife around the edge to trim the excess. 12" discs are pretty expensive and are usually only meant for wood. Don't rule out a...

Custom tool tweaking - who knows their metallurgy?

I believe that to harden most nonstainless tool steels, the minimum heat is well above 1300*. Then, cooled or quenched in a quick enough way to harden. I think it's unnecessary in this situation to try to harden jaws of the wrench. If a steel is hardened and is heated to any temp below that...

Custom tool tweaking - who knows their metallurgy?

If I were trying to bend something that I thought was hardened, I'd stick the jaws of the wrench in water and heat the area you want to bend with a torch. I'd try to keep it in a 'black' heat or just occasional slight bit of dull red. I'd try to soak it for ten/fifteen minutes to try to get...

    Wanted: Custom metal stamp...

If you want to try something like arbor press, you might want to make sure your stamp and the different things that you'd mark can fit in the clearance under the ram. Four and a half inches is a tight squeeze and those lighter presses really flex. You might be able to cobble up a sturdy frame...

    Wanted: Custom metal stamp...

The Henry A Evers Co. makes a great steel stamp. They also have some alignment jigs, but those could be homemade easy enough for your application. If it's a non critical part, you can bring the spot up to dull red with a torch for a quicker cleaner mark that goes easier on the stamp.

    Central Dust Collector System Build

It may not seem like it, but if you block half the intake and read the amps again, I bet it goes down. A motor draws the most amperage when it's doing the most work or in this case moving the most air. The more you choke it off and the less air it moves, the lower amps it will draw, up to a...

    Central Dust Collector System Build

Looks like a large impeller and good hp to turn it. It'll probably flow a bit more without the reducer, and running full diameter pipe as close to the pick up points as you can. Just a thought, really nice work.
