CFL in a drill press/garage door opener?

I put a CFL in our garage door opener and it lasted about 6 months. My research said that CFL's don't like to go on/off/on/off...ours does that when you walk in and out of the garge, and it is death on the CFL's.

    Land ISSUES - Lawyers advise

I've got some responses to some of the posts, but since it appears not many on here understand ag law, it would probably just frustrate myself and others. Just suffice it to say, the laws and rules governing agriculture are different (with good reason) than commercial real estate and typical...

    Land ISSUES - Lawyers advise

Once again, maybe it's just me since I grew up on a farm and understand the laws on this, but what your are suggesting is illegal, and irresponsible. The legal date of notification in most states is either in September or October. Even if the lease gets thrown out now, he is farming it for the...

    Land ISSUES - Lawyers advise

Please keep in mind that as far as I have heard, the farmer has a valid lease. He may be is being difficult, mean, vindictive, whatever, he has the right to the land, which unless the lease says differently, means all rights. HE controls the land, hunting rights, farming rights, he is the...

    Getting closer

Kind of an optical illusion. The shop is in front of the house by 10 feet or so. The peak is actually the same height as the peak on the garage on the house. But it does look pretty big. :) Yep, setting those trusses would have been, well, interesting without it...having a moving scaffold...

    Getting closer

Haven't posted my pictures of my build yet, but here are some...24x36 shop, two drive in doors, two 4x4 windows, one man door. One foot of exposed foundation blocks and 8 foot walls for 9 foot total, scissor trusses which gets to 13 feet in the center. I've got the framing done, so I'm ready...

Lifting a Garage from the foundation

How big is the garage? Shouldn't be too bad to do it yourself, just make sure it's braced and have plenty of cribbing around. I usually poke my head in here once a day or so...SW it's a bit more often...and your site once in a while. :)

Lifting a Garage from the foundation

Is this Chris? :) Your handle, sled and truck look familiar. You can do it yourself. A typical garage isn't too much weight, not terribly tough to do. I would estimate it will cost 3-4000 to hire it done. I can give you a name of the guys who lifted, poured a foundation, and moved my Mom's...

    Please critique my welds

As thin as that metal is and the way that bead looks, I would be willing to bet that if you cut across the weld you would see enough burn through that and bevel would not be needed. Now, if you are welding 1 inch plate in multipass welding, then a bevel is needed. I've also seen beveled 1 inch...

    Please critique my welds

Unless you are going to prime, sand paint (in other words, make it look like it's not welded) don't sand it. The bead is reinforcement, shouldn't need the extra strength, but why bother grinding unless you are going for the unwelded look.

    Please critique my welds

Pretty good looking welds first of all, would be good enough strength to pass in almost all situations. Photos 1 and 3 need a little more fill at the end. See the little crater? Hold the trigger a few seconds to fill that before you stop. Not a deal breaker on a weld, but a weaker spot and...

How do I find the water table on my lot?

You won't have a problem. Colorado really doesn't have a problem with high water tables, my well about 40 miles east of you is at 880 feet...didn't hit water until after 600. Unless you have some very weird soil formations in your neighborhood, I wouldn't worry, and likely if you are in a...

    Driveway heating

Might work, it's called a heat well. Common way to keep livestock watering tanks clear of ice, a 2 foot diameter hole, fill with rocks, surround with concrete, place metal tank on top, fill with water. Typically works down to about 0 or so in our part of the country, even then keeps the ice...

    Almost time to get started

It will clear. I gain about 3 feet additional headroom where the tracks run for the garage door. Thanks for the suggestion, if I could find some 9' garage doors for free I would do it, however I got the 8 footers for free, so going with those.

    Almost time to get started

Well, been kind of lurking, looking for ideas and tips. I have my application in for my building permit and should have it in 2 weeks or so. The permit wasn't needed (ag zoning and no electrical at this time) but was only $50 and I welcome a second set of eyes on my work. It will be 24x36...
