Other than a gusset on the side to keep 'em from moving, I don't think I would worry about that small of a miss.

I scrounged a few of those crinkle finish flourescent light covers. I cut them to the size of my windows and installed. Keeps prying eyes from seeing your treasures but still lets light in.
I've done fence post by just pouring dry mix in the hole. It always sets for me.
The OP is in California? Does it ever rain there? Here in Ohio, a guy can dig a fence post hole and have moisture in the bottom before he can get the post off the truck...

I have a similar setup. I made a loft on the back wall. I used 2 x 4s to frame it. I scrounged a few old interior doors for the shelves. It is mounted to the back wall. It has hangers in the front attached to the rafters with old garage door cable. The loft runs the width of the two car garage...
