Thanks everyone! will be taking it out. Don't worry I fully understand the YMMV and this is an internet forum, and the comments expressed are opinions only.
I will be keep the board though, it's a 120"+ long, it is redwood, and not a single knot.
The house survived the The Loma Prieta earthquake October 17, 1989, magnitude 6.9 I think unharmed. It was only 24 miles (38km) away.
I bought the house from the original owners that built it in 1958 and subsequently did no renovations since it was built. Intact with the original single pane...
I too was thinking the same. Either seismic or wind sheer. But the boards are 3/4" x 5.5" wide [1x6]. How much can these flimsy boards take? I can understand if they were 2x6s or even a 2x4s.
corners are empty. They are just 2x4s. I had them open when I was fixing the drywall earlier.
Will a 3/4" thick board that spans over 120" actually help with wind sheer?
I'm thinking these boards were left as part of the original framing to help keep the walls square and never removed. But I...
Hi Garage Journal members,
I'm a long time reader first time poster. I have a question with regards to my garage.
My home is a 1958 home in Northern California; the house is a hip roof style construction with stucco exterior.
My question is what are these two diagonal boards' purpose that...
Any chance someone somewhere is doing reproductions of the bolt for the rotating base for Chas Parker / Union MFG parker vises?
I picked up a really nice condition Union MFG 974 that looks like was never used in a commercial or industrial setting, but it doesn't have the fancy bolt with circlip...

Was desperate. I broke a princess auto breaker bar 24" 1/2" drive on the 32mm axle lock nut on the subaru that saw 8 salty winters. The snap on 24" breaker that I cheated did nothing by flex like a bow. No access to...
I have had to do a lot of work on suspension lately for my cars. Most of the bolts are seized or rusted because of the salt they use in the winters. I had a helluva a time for replacing my 1/2 shaft for my subaru the other day.
I don't have room for an air compressor at the moment in my...
I saw this at my local Costco here in Canada. Looks sketch. I think it is one of those rebranded Snap On products that are tarnishing the snap on brand name.
No phone number for Nortool. I tried google without any luck. I downloaded the catalog, but I don't see any email or phone number.
I'm just going to get a snap on. At least I have warranty support when stuff breaks. I can just call the Snap on industry area rep if I have a problem.
No more...
I don't have the reciept anymore. I bought it like 6 years ago. All it has is "made in china" stamped on the bar.
Plus I'm trying to replace all my **** tools with decent ones now. I bought a lot of really bad tools when I was a student and just graduated university to keep my Rx7 running. Now...
