    tube flaring tool?

Thank you, that Cal-Van kit is just what I'm looking for! That SUR&R tool looks kinda interesting. How well does it work in tight quarters, though? The device Joe pictured above is great, but I could only use that on the bench. -Dave

    tube flaring tool?

I have one of these Napa tools for doing brake line flares, and it works great, esp on vehicle. https://www.napaonline.com/en/p/SER161A Does anyone know if you can get that style of flaring tool in other sizes, like maybe 3/8 or even 1/2"? (for use on NiCopp)

    Band Saw question

Thanks for the replies -- I hadn't thought about blade speed. I'll see what options I have for slowing it down. Knowing 200 fpm as a target speed is helpful, thanks! -Dave

    Band Saw question

Hey everyone.. I picked up an old Craftsman 12" band saw (113.248210). I'm hoping to be able to use it for light metal cutting. It seems to have an 80" x 1/4" wood cutting blade. Can I install an 80" x 1/2" metal cutting blade? Thanks, -Dave

    Insulate or not?

Another vote for insulation, especially on a free-standing building. I'm in NE Ohio, and while this winter has been very pleasant (it's in the 70s today!!), just 2-3 years ago, we had some brutally cold winter. My garage is insulated and the walls/ceiling are finished with OSB. After a week...

    Two Post Lift Purchase

Same here, installed it with help from friends in Oct '13. Love it. Purchased from Greg Smith Equipment, and since it requires a fork-lift or other heavy equipment to off-load from a freight truck, I made an arrangement with my local rental store. They received it for me from the truck (since...

    pole barn garage plans?

You don't *need* a 12ft wall, it just depends on how close to the wall you want the lift. I have 10ft walls along with scissors trusses and I can lift full-size pickups high enough for 6ft people to work comfortably under it. Granted, one of the posts on my lift is less than a foot from the...

long bed trk on two post

On my 2000 Silverado, I go right on the forward leaf spring mount. I use the tall spacer on the leaf spring, and two short spacers on the front. -Dave

    My 32x40 automotive storage/workshop

Honestly, I don't remember why I had the doors made so tall. I probably wanted to make sure I could back a trailer or anything large in there. It's probably a little overkill. I put drains in because I wanted to be able to wash cars in the winter and I didn't want to have to have the doors...

There wasn't a company that made the building. I had plans drawn to my spec and I got quotes from a few different places for a completed building. Steel siding was never an option for me. It's not common around here, at least for buildings in residential areas. -Dave

Wall height is 10'. The building itself (no concrete floor, no utilities, no garage doors, just a shell) was around $34k for materials + labor. I may have paid a lot in labor cost, but once the poles were set, the concrete guys came and poured the floor, and then the building went up *quick*...

Thanks! The door on the lift bay is a high-lift, so I can have the door open even with a car fully raised. The post between the doors is pretty small, 24" max, I think. I just measured and between the two door tracks is 23". -Dave

THE LIFT The biggest reason I built a new building was so that I could have a lift. I worked in a real service station back in the late 80s/early 90s when I was in HS and college and had first-hand experience with how awesome they are. They just make everything easier. When I had the plans...

    My 32x40 automotive storage/workshop

Once the doors were up, I could finally close the building and moved the cars inside. It's funny, after the concrete was poured, I was standing on it, trying to visualize the building, and it just seemed small. However, with the building being up and the two most important cars inside, it...
