Things in your garage that you wish WEREN'T in your garage.

I've had the same cherry picker for just about 30 years - it's lived 90% of it's life outdoors (other than the hydraulic cylinder - I keep that inside). I live in the PNW - so it's rained on, snowed on, and occasional sun. Don't worry about it. (and definitely don't wrap it in plastic)

    Uncluttered, spotless garage, sick people

well, I've got a 3 car semi-attached garage (wife's Falcon, son's S-10 drag truck, my C10 project) and a 19x28" little shop (daughters mk1 Cabrio getting a new engine), carport (wife's restored Jimmy & Cabrio parts car currently) Zero daily drivers parked inside. 3 daily's parked outside in...

Is stainless pipe ok for a compressed air dryer?

as someone who deals with heat exchangers daily (manufacturers rep/supplier), there is definitely some "interesting" advice listed here....... I'd suggest to ignore the much of it (ie. the comments about needing 20 times as much stainless vs. copper......)

What are/(were) your most USELESS tools?

I have one of those as well - probably given it 15+ years ago and haven't once thought about using it lol

    Upside down Girts?

any deflection isn't going to be the result of it being installed upside down. I'm sure it's probably not the "right" way, but other than the ability to hold more dirt/debris/moisture, it shouldn't harm anything

Above 1200 Sq/FT Garage build in South West B.C

Looks really good! When I lived out in Chilliwack we used Windsor Plywood for all the custom width doors in our house (1948 house - nothing - and I mean nothing - was any sort of standard lol) Pricing & lead times were very good - not much different than the big box stores on "standard" pre...

    McDougall Lathe

Well, I've found a few things to practice on (still no idea what I'm doing, but figuring things out slowly) A mini baseball bat/fish bonker/road rage stopper Some shock spacers for my sons S10 drag truck - A simple scribe and some tea lights Nothing fancy, just real basic learning...

the millionth insulation & vapour barrier question - small shop with attached carport

Looking for a bit of advice on insulation & vapour barriers...... Located in BC Canada (near Vancouver - maybe 2 hours north of Seattle) I have a small shop that I'm finishing electrical on right now and am looking to insulate. Basically - the enclosed shop is 19' x 28' x 12' walls, the...

    McDougall Lathe

Everything is in good working order thankfully (it was still being used by my uncle on occasion, he had it for about 20 years or so). We ran it through all the gears etc. before moving it, I'll be sure to check everything again before powering it up. I did get it levelled, no twist etc (one of...

    McDougall Lathe

I guess the DT50 maybe had different bed lengths available, that might explain the different sizes

    McDougall Lathe

Thanks - I had found that bit of history earlier. This lathe appears to be from the UBJ years of selling McDougall designs before starting to use the VDF components - at least as far as I can tell anyhow. It has DT-50 cast into it in two locations, but the only "DT-50" info I could find is...

    McDougall Lathe

So my uncle wanted to get this lathe out of his garage since he needed parking for his boat & doesn't use it a bunch anymore. Long story short - this was my Uncle Bob's father's lathe that he had purchased second hand a long long time ago. It's a Canadian made McDougall lathe, likely built in...

Ideas for storing a small car chassis

I actually have one of these (it was replaced with a forklift at my office, bossman just said to call a courier to take the other one to my little shop instead of trying to sell it lol). The limitation is lifting height - generally about 5' or so. If that can get you high enough no reason it...

    Permit Issue?

I know someone who had a similar issue in my area (BC Canada). They had never passed final inspection on a barn built in the mid 1990s, in 2020 they tried to pull a permit to construct a shop on the same property and got nailed for the previous issue. They had to get the barn inspected & ended...

Hobby level, but heavy hobby level plasma & tig

Re: Hobby level, but heavy hobby level plasma & tig Agreed - buy tanks, don't rent..... My most recent was a 110cf tank, purchased for $270CND, that's less than 3 years lease payments on one, certification is good for 10 years, and re-cert (for my last tank anyhow) was under $50CND for...
