Looks like a pretty neat unit; I'm betting those 3 pin connectors at the top are some sort of remote control input, or maybe a status output.
As with so many things of that era, awesomely overengineered.
"lol I actually kinda know what he's talking about...hair/string getting wrapped around a riveted axle. My solution was to use one of those cheap thin bladed snap knives. Slide the blade in there and start sawing away. You won't be able to just pull the stuff out because of how tightly wrapped...

My favorite news goof was an on air report of a house fire. Weekend newscast in Buffalo in the 70s, so maybe not even the 'B' crew. Anchor read off that fire was due to a "hot sold-er-ing iron." I just knew she gone to the engineering dept before hand and asked how that word should be pronounced.
OK, I'll defer to your long experiences.
But I'll stand by my comment about people using products badly and then calling the product bad. (kinda like bagpipes vs. trumpets. Some beginner can play a trumpet badly, and most will bear with a few bad notes, etc & call it learning curve...
Corrosion problems happen with intrusion of moisture, dirt, contaminants, etc. A Scotch-lok inside the passenger cabin shouldn't experience those. But don't ever use S-Ls outside the vehicle.

Standard electrical weather head is the way to go as long as the coaxial cable bend is larger than it's minimum bend radius. Communication co- ax bent smaller than minimum bend radius, kinked, is no bueno, it's scrap now.
I picked up a Fluke Scopemeter several years ago, maybe around $100 or so from da 'Bay, tho I had to replace the battery. Less than $150 I'm in for. Should last me a long time, and it's so portable. More so than a Tek 465 with matching scope cart! Long gone are the days of scopes with...
