    Help with Vari-Speed Lathe Drive

Great info, Larry, thanks. So if I understand what you're saying correctly, the thrust bearing is what the finger contacts and the thrust bearing should not be spinning when the finger is contacting it. Currently, however, the bearing is spinning and that is why the finger is wearing so...

    Help with Vari-Speed Lathe Drive

I've done a bunch of research on Reeve's Drivers/Vari-Speed Drives. I know the Clausings are hydraulically actuated and I believe some others like a Hardinge HLV-H are electrically operated. The lathe in question here is a pattern maker's lathe of German manufacture. The brand is Zimmerman...

80 Gallon Vertical Air Compressor Tank

I'm looking for an 80 gallon vertical air compressor tank to replace my old unit, which is too rusty to use any longer. I need one that is NOT rusty inside and hopefully isn't more than 10 years old. I've seen to many pictures of ruptured tanks and the resulting mayhem. I'm secretly...

I guess we'll see, I bought the GE one last night and it shipped today.

Do I need a magnetic motor starter?

That's the cheapest one I've found by a LONG shot, discounting the Chinese ones on eBay. I want good quality. The Square D units start at $325 or so and go up from there.

Do I need a magnetic motor starter?

Okay, here's the scenario: I'm rebuilding an old 80 gallon vertical Saylor-Beall compressor, that was refitted with with an IR T30 Model 242 pump before it came into my possession. It came to me in pieces and missing some parts. It also has a relatively new Leeson 5hp, single phase, 21 amp...

    CL Purchase - 1973 Saylor-Beall - Some Questions

Sure, you were very helpful so thank you! So I gather the 2545 used to be called the 242? I know that small tube from the HP head to the crankcase cover is for the centrifugal unloader assembly. What purpose does a pilot valve serve?

Would you explain what you mean about the in-tank check valve?

    CL Purchase - 1973 Saylor-Beall - Some Questions

Since this thread, I'd made two others asking more specific questions about parts of this compressor. But I think I should provide some of the info I've learned here to spread the knowledge. Here's what I've found: It is an original SB compressor tank. Wood Industrial Products was just...

    New Saylor Beall Tank Decal?

That sounds great, please keep me updated.

    New Saylor Beall Tank Decal?

That is correct, a T30 Model 242. Not my doing, it came that way unfortunately. The IR is great pump and has more output than the SB 703/705 that would have been OEM, but I'd still rather have the SB pump.
