Best Tools to Get You Out of Trouble

my trust cook mini-max (9 lb dead blow hammer), a 10 ton porta-power and various types and sizes of pullers. also, the 5 inch knipex pliers wrench that rides in my pocket at all times saves me from having to walk all the way back to my box about 20 times a day.

    Toolbox Choices

You are correct that no one pays list for a snap on box. I stated that to put in perspective that it's something like 70% off, which is pretty good for new snap on box. If he can afford it, I think it's worth that amount of money. If not, then there are plenty of other options used or new non...

    Toolbox Choices

That is a good price for the Snap on box. List is something like $5000. If you can afford it, I'd go for it. I don't think your going to find a comparable box for that price unless it's used.

Tools more consistent than HF in quality

Tekton or Gearwrench or Toptul if your not looking to spend a lot and want a consistent level of quality. SK, Wright, Proto if your wanting no compromise high quality without paying tool truck prices. Klein, Channellock for good pliers. Knipex for great pliers. Dont overlook used truck brand...

Screwdrivers with teeth - Do you like them?

I like the Snap on instinct and Klein screwdrivers. Im not really a fan of the Wera grips. The "teeth" seem to help, but I'm not typically using a Phillips in an appication that it's likely to cam out.

Do you still use SAE much ?

I use primarily SAE at work on industrial manufacturing equipment. Everything made in house or in the USA is SAE and everything that was imported (Mostly from Italy) is Metric. Id say 80% SAE and 20% Metric. I have full sets of both.

    Wobble Extensions - SK/Snap-On/KTC/Wright?

I have the snap on standard wobble sets in 1/4 and 3/8. My only complaint is that the knurling is kind of garbage, but otherwise they have been great. I mainly bought them to have a larger assortment of lengths over the harbor freight set I had. If you don't need a large assortment of every...

    2017 Epstein's Day?

Think I'm going to get a couple 1/2" socket sets and the new SK ratchet. May change if there are any promos going on like past years.

    Sk club

bought the premium membership. Agreed that its only $50. It's worth it to see what they do with it. I plan on buying a bunch of their stuff this year anyways.

How many ratchets do you own?

I have 7 in my work box. All are used on a regular basis. I'm looking to get a 1/4" flex at some point. After that, I think I have all the bases covered. Probably have somewhere between 5 and 10 in various places (home, vehicles, etc)

    Task Force vs Mac Economizer

Just a thought, but you may want to consider a roll cab. Most of the mechanics at the plant i work at use a 41" or larger roll cab with a plastic butcher board top on it. Main reason being it's basically a mobile workbench. I'd personally be looking for a roll cab in the 41"-55" range. The...

Why do you buy the tools you buy?

Usually I find myself in an unforeseen situation at work where I don't have the right tool or the tool I have fails miserably. I then have to improvise or borrow a tool from someone else. This results in a tool purchase. Usually I do quite a bit of research and buy the best quality available.

    knipex pliers wrench

The 10 inch is probably the most versatile, but for me the 5'' gets the most use since it's in my pocket 100% of the time I'm at work. Saves me about a dozen walks back to my tool box every day. I have the 5", 7", 10" and 12".

Ratcheting combination wrench; what's your preference?

I just use the regular non reversable ones. The flex ones come in handy occasionally, but I find them to be a pain in the *** most of the time because the flex joint causes the wrench to fall off the fastener to easily. They would be way more useful if they were able to lock in position. Most...
