just use degreaser and a hose, pressure washer for really nasty stuff if it wont come off with a hose. i typically just use undiluted simple green. spray on and let sit for 10 mins then spray off.
I have like 5 of the husky branded, home depot foldable knives. never let me down yet and are stupid simple. if im using a regular utility knife its a retractable stanley or the stanley you can do the quick change blades with.

frankly speaking having used many of them over the years: it is hard to beat a clore JNC660. We would abuse them at work and if anything internally the cables would start to fail and fray before the batteries gave up.
