    Vice identification assistance.

Thanks. Definitely looks like a Columbian based on that picture. The red is spray paint from something he was painting last. Only thing I forgot to add is that I remember it being in his shop in the 80s. Is there any way to tell the year?

    Vice identification assistance.

I rescued my grandfather's old vice from his old shop. I am looking for some assistance with identification though. The mount is hard to read. Only thing I can find is a 20 cast in the bottom. The top I can make out Cleveland and Made In the USA. It has 5 1/2 in jaws that open just over 8...

    Box Upgrade.

Here's a few more up close pictures of the box. I am very impressed with the drawers they slide nicely and have a detent in the slide to keep them closed.

    Box Upgrade.

Nope. I did paint the other 2 black though they were blue cases with tan drawers. The gray one is from a buddy of mine's old garage when he moved he was planning on just leaving it there. I'm pretty sure that his roommate had painted it at one point. The only reason I haven't painted it...

    Name a tool you hate

Interchangeable tip snap ring pliers. The tip either spins or falls out no matter how hard I tighten the screws down that hold the tips in place. Maybe it's just a cheap set. The ones I have are like these: http://store.harryepstein.com/cp/SnapRing/444K.html?via=googProds

    Box Upgrade.

So I finally ran across a good deal on a large enough box to store most of my tools (still have 3 60" tall Stanley vidmars and 2 file cabinets). After I got done moving all my tools over my wife comes into the shop and tells me to move the old box into the house, so I obliged her. That night...

    Recommend a home security system?

That's the one I have, and with the sensors being wireless the garage is also protected.

Anyone ever welded up a broken ratchet?

I welded up a cheap 3/4" drive ratchet that had broke. Then shoved it into a 7ft pipe. That was 15 years ago (when I was a young teenager trying to put duals on tractors) and it is still going strong although my father has moved on to an impact gun now though.

    1/4 drive, 1 1/8 inch socket?

That's exactly how I do it. The adapters really don't get in the way. Just use a 1/4" to 3/8" and 3/8" to 1/2". I have never seen the need for a special socket seeing as how unless you are doing a bunch of the same differentials there will be a need for different sized sockets depending on...

Can my house power a welder??

Are you looking at 110v or 220v? 220v welders come equipped with a 50a plug attached. So to answer your question you will need a 50a 220v circuit to power your welder. If you under amp or run too light of a gauge of wire you will negatively affect your welder so it doesn't seem as powerful as...

You can't be serious, I'm giving away TWO toolboxes?

Here is a link to the way my garage is layed out now, and I am still stuck with things everywhere because I do not have enough room to store things. I would love to opportunity to get rid of all the random boxes and be able to put everything in one box. I haven't been able to find a nice box...

The VINTAGE toolboxes of Garage Journal!

No on the roller bearings. I will have to look and see if there is a date on it when I get home.

    New guy freshly reorganized garage.

That chair has been through a ton of changes brought on by boredom. It started out as a cheap kitchen chair that was left in the garage when I bought the house, and then I decided I wanted to make it easier to move so out came the 2x4s and casters. Then when I redid the interior of my truck I...

    New guy freshly reorganized garage.

So here's a couple pics of my small detached garage in the middle of the city. I really need/want something larger since I can't fit a truck in mine. I can't even get my truck in because the hood almost hits the door.

Craftsman Impact Driver & Streamlight Giveaway

I've always heard that Streamlight makes a great product, but have never had the opportunity to try one. Right now I either use a rechargeable Maglite or one of my Surefires.
