Yeah wasn't sure if the primer was rust, not original, close top colour thou. And I couldn't pass that by either, My 1930's cast 6" Quick release + paint/ new jaws has cost me $500 And a 1980's 150mm(6") cast $175 +$90 for new jaws.

Darkish Blue, the colour on it looks close/may be original paint, send it to me and I'll do a thorough check/research on it  Nice vice, uncommon that size in steel Definitely pre 1978- fairly sure it's a 1970- 77 example.- Another anomaly- the Cast vices have Australia on them from...

Thankyou, something to aspire to ( no, not really, I'm finished now), vice number 100 was this weekends Record 74, 101 another Record last night,(clamp on woodworkers with removable pipe jaws plate, unusual )-couldn't resist , 99 is arriving today a South African made Record. Somehow just...

Just came across this again, Thankyou @CRSINMICH , the second 74 I picked up this week I thought was a late 40's-to late 50's version, just wasn't sure when the 2 valve holding holes were deleted. No patent date or pipe jaw bolt ( and of course missing the pipe jaw as no bolt to stop it...

Grabbed a Record 74, cost 2 big macs, while picking up my Floor art today, gorgeous weather,a 3 hr round trip. Not sure if I leave it as is, or spruce it up a bit, it'll just sit there making me smile until I decide.

So the Comet isn't common from what I've come across, fairly rare, only seen my Rapier thou and you would have to say the Comet and Rapier had the same tooling, (made by same company ?) They are a nice vice, but not quite as precise as a 30/40's Imp.

Thankyou, I'll be hunting down Woden catalogues tonight now.

Yes, like them, but won't be buying any unless they are reasonably priced and already in Oz, England postage is ridiculous, $50 AUD for a Imp or similar plus $230 postage, US is good, bought these 2 sets recently for $39 US + $22 US postage, I'll sell one set, may even make a little on it and...

Thankyou @CRSINMICH - I'll have a look and venture down that path as well LOL, this set me down the Comet path, had a look and hmmm, found 3 in a few hours, which is 2 more references than I've found with the Rapier vice in 2 years. Did find a reference to Rapier having a vice at the 1950...

This is the correct answer I went down another rabbit hole last night researching a Record No 0, which arrived yesterday ( early 1923,as far as I can speculate, no Made In England or access holes in the base to drive the pin out which was dumb and they changed that for following examples)...

Yes, and I would buy this, but not paying $329 postage. ARMSTRONG MFG Co #2 PIPE VISE LARGE RARE 1882 I could have been more specific thou- The Lock Tools is an exact copy of the Reed, including the Pipe bender and sizes it will fit - GRIPS 1/8" - 2-1/2" BENDS 1/8”-3/4"

I've been doing 12 vices at the same time, clean/degrease into the molasses, dremel wire brush and steel wool when derusted, it's been kinda fun,'OOH I need a bolt with a chamfer'- like a jigsaw puzzle with 12 vices ready to put back together- pretty simple when it's all said and done thou...

Thankyou, the only thing I won't take of is the nameplate, looks like a very good example to me. It was posted this morning so shouldn't be long, surely I'm all viced out now, that's close to my bucket list completed Arrived quickly, screws broken off in jaw plates, no biggy, otherwise no...
